Porsche 962 in 1/8 scale

Hi, just want to show my latest project.

Its an Porsche 962 in huge 1/8 scale.

Never thought about that massive scale so far.But when i was searching for the Kyosho McLaren MP4/4 in 1/8 i found the user Sean Main here who is collecting 1/8 or bigger stuff.
I liked the idea to make something for him he cant find anywhere. So i started with the Porsche 962 for him.

The white parts are printed in resin from a chinese company. Thats way too big for my home printers.
I decided to let them also print some parts from others cars which i was printing at home to see any differences.

and i let them print the bodywork in 3 parts like the real thing got.

Now i simply had to cut the tubes of stabilization off and put both parts together. Works great.

Wheels are also made in 2 different designs.

The grey parts are home printed to check any issues with fitment. Only some small adjustments needed so far.

There will be a curbside version of the Porsche and a version with more details. My goal is to make an engine for it thats the reason i made the engine bay like it is. Should fit for the engine at the end.
Its a nice and very interesting project so far.
The body parts are some kind of Frankenstein thing.I used 3 different files to create this one. Its not so smooth than it could be but its ok.Sanding is not a problem in this scale.

regards Christian

Re: Porsche 962 in 1/8 scale

Ha ha! Yes - 1/8 scale models do take up a lot of space, don't they? Very impressive - I can appreciate the various differences between the 962 and the 956. The whole project is great, but I do particularly like the fire bottle and mounting cradle, and the BBS 'mesh' wheel centres.

Any thoughts on which livery it'll have? If you're able to get decal sheets printed with white lettering and logos, I might have to have a chat with you about what I do with my 956...

Looking forward to seeing how this one develops - so much potential for adding lots of detail!

Bravo!
SB

Re: Porsche 962 in 1/8 scale

@SB: Thank you.You are the true master of 1/8 building for sure!
What livery? Mhmm, right now i am not sure if i will keep one for me.These scale is so big.But which one i really like most is the Shell version with the red, yellow and white color.
The decals will come from my buddy Michael who did all custom decals for me. If you want i can sent you his mail address.

Today I finished the prototype of the Porsche.
I still have to change a few smaller parts, but that can be done quickly.

The rear wing consists of 2 parts because I didn't like the one printed in China. Unfortunately, my printer cannot print it in one piece. You can tell that it is a bit warped, but all the brackets are there.
I'll try that again next time with better resin in China.

I will also be able to offer an IMSA version.

I still have to change small things in the files, but so far everything is ready.

I hope you like it.

Greeting Christian

Going by your pictures, this beast is over 60cm long and 25cm wide. Just mind blowing!
I like these big scale projects. Unfortunately I have no room to show such a model, so I'll stick with 1:24
Keep up the good work. By the way, what printer are you running?
