Rudge wheel and luggage set for 300SL

Hi Guys, I haven't posted for a while, but let me show my new creations:
Rudge wheels and luggage set for the Tamiya Mercedes 300SL.
They are the first prints but I think they look really great.
Some updates are comming soon as I'm drawing the PE for the luggage set...
Tell me what do you thik about them?

Rudge looks very well, but luggage need a little bit more details on corners for example,
Decals for plaid seats will be also a great idea !

I'd second the idea for plaid seat decals. I like the luggage too! I want to keep the wheels stock though.

Re: Rudge wheel and luggage set for 300SL

I've already designed them...
I'm just waiting for the kit to make the design at the right scale.

Be careful, only 3 colors were available on the catalogue !!
Many cars have been restored with fake plaids.
For example, seats shows by CrateCruncher's have one of original colours.
Those shown by viperofoz's not.

By I admit some "non-original" colours are nice

Replacement metal struts for the doors would be a welcome aftermarket edition. Surprised acu-stion didn't think of this.

Stitching on the luggage is a very nice detail. I vote in favor of plaid inserts for the seats, too.

Re: Rudge wheel and luggage set for 300SL

Thanks for the comments guys!
The wheels are almost done, valves are also coming with them.
I had some touble with the top luggage, it got too big so I had to redesign it
I was thinkig of to make the radio as well, maybe it could come with the luggage set!?
What do you think?

Re: Rudge wheel and luggage set for 300SL

KBX,
If you are considering a decal sheet for the 300SL might I suggest that in addition to the plaid seat inserts that you also include body color decals for the hub caps and dash board areas. These two parts are virtually impossible to mask and are highly visible items. Tamiya punted the ball by adding some gray-ish stars for the hubcaps and didn't do anything for the dash.

Adding body color decals for perhaps silver, black, red, blue would make the decal sheet much bigger and justify a higher price for the sheet. I think there are more people wanting hubcap decals than plaid inserts so the sheet would sell more despite the higher price. Below is a hub cap from the period similar to a 300sl. Notice the 3-D star. Metallic Transfers (stickers) wouldn't work in my view because they don't stretch at all. To make stickers work one would have to sand the part flat, paint it, then apply the sticker losing the 3-D effect in the process. A color decal approach would include an outer ring and three pie shaped sections and a clear window for the star and ring to shine through, in each popular body color. The dash could be done similarly but in one piece. Liberal amounts of decal solvent would be needed for the decals to conform to the shapes of the parts but would be much easier than masking.
