Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

With the Nuremberg Toy Fair about to get under way Tamiya have announced a new kit of the classic Mercedes 300 SL Gull Wing which will be welcome addition to their Historic Car series

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

Heres a pic from their facebook page. (ignore the tracky thing below it... unless you are that way inclined)

I'm sure it will be a very nice kit and I'll probably buy one.... eventually.
Plenty of other subjects I would have preferred, personally but at least they are producing a new car kit... of an old subject.

Regards, Dan

...Right in my strike zone.

Bastards. Cant they leave me alone? Don't they know I have enough kits to build?

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

Looks like a nice kit...of a subject that's not exactly at the top of my wish list. That said, I don't have any SL gullwing kits, so...that might change now.

Clear chassis? Oh my.

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

I had been considering the old AMT kit for some time but just wasn't that high on my list of wants. This will most likely move it higher up the list depending on the price tag. It will probably end up in the "to do" pile eventually.

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

Sure, there are other things that I'd like to see, given that the Italeri versions are pretty decent, but this is great news...kind of like when Fujimi announced the 250gto and it was the best one yet.

That's the belly pans represented in clear. Now the aftermarket manufacturers can have a lot of fun...would be nice to see some rudge wheels.

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

Okay, I'll need at least two. It's spectacular...and I'm in the "I'd have bought a Lusso long before this" camp...

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

One thing that I noticed: it has speaker grills, but no radio (which was an option and was a small addition to the bottom-center of the dash - see pic). This would really benefit from the aftermarket, including the rudge wheels, fitted suitcases, hose clamps, rivets etc.

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

already nearly know which will be "my" versions...

racers!! and I am so happy cause Mercedes was a real milestone of motorsport, with an incredible history connected to germany and the nurburgring.hope this is a start of the production of those great cars.I already dream thinking at the heroical pilots racing with theme..
I was lucky to cross one gullwing on the road near linate airport just few days ago, and was amazingly nice and sweet to see her moving around in traffic.

Re: Tamiya 300SL Gull Wing

I've seen real 300 SL's at Amelia Island Concours that had the speaker grilles but no radio under the dash, I don't think it's a mistake on Tamiya's part.
