Launch is crappy with a FWD car those type of cars have the worst launch of any set up. Like Tearz said yeah drive train loss is less meaning more HP is going to those Two front wheels then if you have an AWD car. So to add this up on the high way youde be faster. Ok Ill use a GST and a GSX for example. Both turbo charged both 200hp, Whos gonna win at a rolling start? the GST. While your going in a str8 like AWD do not have ANY advantage over RWD or FWD cars at a roll. It has a disadvantage because of the added weight and the drivetrain loss. So lets say you had the VR4 engine and what ever in your FWD car, youde be putting down mroe HP to the front wheels so at a roll youde beat the VR4. But off the line the launch fromt he VR4 would kill you. Hope that answers your Q.

The idea of FWD is cheep production and good gas milage. There is no rear diff, no driveshaft and a whole bunch of other parts. so the back end of the car just has to follow the engine and drive wheels.

Re: whats fwd for?
Also, AWD doesnt necessarily have better handling than RWD. In most AWD setups the power to the front wheels cause understeering. There are a few AWD cars with differential systems to prevent this, also the ATTESA traction system in the GT-R provides the best of both worlds, AWD when its needed, RWD while cornering.
