Emissions Test( Readiness Monitors )
Hello- I have a 97 Malibu LS with 172k miles and a 3.1 v6.Have had a nitemare of problems trying to pass emmisions test.EVAP,EGR,02Heater monitors not coming ready---Any ideas? All the problems seemed to come up after having intake gasket repairs.Had bad EGR valve and sensor that set code and replaced it,pass lock ign.problem and replaced, and bad seal on fuel cap and replaced it.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated Thanks |

Re: Emissions Test( Readiness Monitors )
If they are NOT ready then that means the computer has NOT gotten enough inputs from them to make an average indication of thier status...Its no big deal...just drive the car around for 25 or 30 miles.
Did your car recently have the "Check Engine Light" on and you cleared the codes??? Sounds like that is what happened. The codes wont go away just with clearing the codes...you gotta repair/replace the faulty sensor. The CEL will come back on once the computer gets enough readings from the sensors (monitors) to give an average reading. |

Re: Emissions Test( Readiness Monitors )
The cars' computer has to run thru what is called "Drive Cycles"...google that term to learn more... it's too much to post on this thread.

Re: Emissions Test( Readiness Monitors )
Just to add, if you clear a code(s), this resets all the "flags", and they have to run through the tests, if they meet the criteria.....
Had one customer, tests would not run for his evap flags......criteria was not met.....he had a full tank of gas.....test would only run and pass if his fuel level was betwen 25-75%...... |
