?? Grinding noise, car shakes ??
I had just gotten a 1990 dodge shadow, which hadnt been driven in about 6 months. A few hours after i got it home, i jumped it to let it run for a while. But when i did that, the car started making a grinding noise, like metal grinding against metal maybe? And the car was shaking more than a normal car shakes too. Any ideas as to what the problem may be? And if possible, if itll be extremely expensive to fix.
Thanks for all feedback. Darin |

Is it a Automatic or a Manual transmission?

Sounds like it could be the starter motor staying meshed with the flexplate gear. I have had it happen on cars that havn't run for a while. If this happens its criticle not to rev the motor as it will wreck the starter motor.
Have you tried it lately? |

thanks ill have to look into that, but im thinking now that it might be the air conditioner belt bearings lacking grease because it was out in the sun and it dried up. when the air is turned on, it vibrates more noticably. its mounted on a 4 cylinder so its not as sturdy as it would be if it was a 6, which would account for the shaking, which i guess is unavoidable
but thanks for the feedback ill check into that too to be sure thanks darin |

Also check the Auto tranny fluid level, remember that the car has to be running at warm Idle in neutral (set parking brake) to get a accurate reading.
