2004 Grand AM SE1 P0455 Large Leak Code

Hey, sorry if this is a repost, but I did a quick forum search and couldn't find anything so here it is:

So, my car is throwing the dreaded P0455 code. I recently bought it with the code already on it. I started by re-tightening the gas cap and clearing the code. Came back on a bit later. I took it to my local mechanic and had them perform a smoke test. Well, they found no such leak. The guy re-tightened the gas cap himself, cleared the code and sent me on my way to see if he fixed it.

Well, guess what has come right back? Before I take it back, does anyone have any idea what I may be looking at? I've got to get it reinspected by Dec 5th, as my 60 day "R" will be up.

Thanks!

I haven't had that code before but I've had codes regarding the evap system. I changed solenoids, bought a new gas cap, changed other parts as well. Turned out my wiring harness was hard and brittle from age, causing a loose connection. Bought a new one and never had the code again. I don't know what the part number is for your code issue but it's worth a shot to check that. Let me know if that worked for you, if you go that route.

Re: 2004 Grand AM SE1 P0455 Large Leak Code

So, I gave in and brought it back into the garage. Guy did the smoke test again, but again came back negative. He mentioned this time that they don't have the proper equipment to test the gas cap. I would have figured he would have told me that he hadn't checked the cap in the first place. So, bought a new cap myself and lo and behold, (knock on wood) 100 miles later, and I haven't gotten a light. Fingers crossed.

kinda what I thought......if you do a smoke test for a "large" leak, and can't see it, there is something vewy, vewy, wong....
