1988 s10 original alternator ?

I'm having a noisy alternator and want to put new bearing in it. As I study about doing it, I find that in that era, generally the delco remy alternator used was the end of the 10si and the beginning of the 12si versions. Mine looks more like the pictures of the cs130. I don't think it has ever been replaced, but I could be wrong. I have 138,000 miles on it to date. I think it's possible to be the original equipment.
The only id on the alternator I can see is Delco Remy and the BAT terminal. It is the three wire version.
Does anyone know what this 1988 basic s10 2.5l truck came with?
Has anyone rebuilt their alternator? It doesn't seem that difficult especially if the bearings ( and maybe the brushes) are the only parts needed.
Thanks in advance
RC

Re: 1988 s10 original alternator ?

It's very possible that it is the original alternator. I recently replaced a CS-130D at 188K for completely used-up brushes and a noisy rear bearing. The front bearing and brush kit are easy to replace, while sourcing the rear bearing can be more difficult. You'll need a very large high-wattage solder gun to remove the stator wires to allow opening the unit to access the bearing retainer.

Re: 1988 s10 original alternator ?

Thanks for the heads up on the soldering needs. Some videos I've watch show them welded instead of soldered. they end up having to cut a small portion of the pin off, then solder the new on. We'll see what happens on mine.
Any other experience or helpful hint would be appreciated.
