Rover won't start

I bought A 1990 Range Rover 6 months ago and love it. It recently began loosing power on the highway and it died on the offramp. It would start and then die when I gave it any gas. now it won't start at all. I thought my fuel pump went out but it seems to be OK. I looked all over the fuel system and it seems to be in working order, it just wont fire. After pulling a plug it looks like I might not be getting a spark. Doese anyone have any advise how to check the ignition system? also I have been told that a plugged cat would produce the same effect.
Thanks
Mike

Talking Re: Rover won't start

Turns out my friend knows what he is talking about. I separated the exhaust right below the manifold and cranked it over. It fired right up. It is loud but runs great. I guess I should change both catalytic converters at the same time.
