yukon 1997 wide turns
hello, I have this issue I hope some of you have any idea of what could be happening.
I replace the front left lower arm (driver side) in my yukon ī97 4x4 and when I turn all the wheel for any side (right turn or make a U turn) my steering wheel only "turns" a half way, in others words My U turns are wide than was before. Iīve returned the vehicle in the mechanics and they said that is nothing wrong with they work, they said that my truck always made a Wide turn thatīs not true t . in my parking garage I always be able to made and "L" turn without any problem, now I just canīt get into the garage without run into reverse and forward at least 2 times. I didnīt made any other repair that time, but after my problem I replace almost everything in my suspension I even change the steering wheel pump. any Ideas? sorry for mu english, I did my best. |

Re: yukon 1997 wide turns
Okay, sounds like the steering stop is in a different position, why was this arm replaced, is the new arm exactly like the old one, have an accident on that side?

Re: yukon 1997 wide turns
thanks for your response.
the reason of I replace the lower arm itīs because it had the ball joint "welded" and I have to replace the ball joint, thatīs why I replace the whole arm additional info... I put a different lower arm from a Chevy Suburban 1999 ( I also check that it was identical) and I Installed a new ball joint |

Re: yukon 1997 wide turns
Get it up in the ailr and try and look at or measure the extreme angle created by turning the wheel to both extremes, see if there is a visible difference, have some watch the steering from underneath as you do this. Also possible it is the wrong side arm?

Re: yukon 1997 wide turns
hello.
I already did that, what I found was the steering wheel "lose" a half of turn, both sides I mean this: I have my steering wheel "straight" (as well as the tires going straight) and I turn the wheel one turn and a half for each side (turning the wheel to the left is only one complete turn plus a half more, kind of 3/4) the same for the left turning, a little bit more than a one turn and and half. below the wheels "looks" like still have a lot of space to turn, but it just "stuck" in the middle of the way. I know and I remember that my steering wheel can turn two turns (2 whole round) and a one quarter but now, it just "have" one complete turn and a little bit more than a half about the wrong side of arm, it was remove from the driverīs side in both cars (the donor and my car) I was entirely aware of that. what I have in mind itīs that maybe they "disassemble" the pitman down and maybe the put it back in wrong position, itīs that possible? I have visit a lot of workshop of suspension and they said that thereīs nothing wrong with the steering mechanism, thatīs why Iīm posting here for some direction (tough I have to say that the workshop they never inspects my truck deeply, just a quick view) |

Re: yukon 1997 wide turns
So who did the work?, there is no reason to touch anything in the steering when replacing the arm, except maybe disconnecting the tie. rod from the spindle, 4wd I assume?

Re: yukon 1997 wide turns
hello, and you are right, thereīs no reason to touch the steering parts
thatīs why I returned the truck to the shop where replaced the lower arm but they said that they donīt made any other repairs, so, the truth is my truck now makes a wider turns and I donīt know what to do for repair (as I donīt know what went wrong) and Yes, itīs 4WD other item involved is the "adjust" of the torsion bar, I donīt know if that have to do with anything, just trowing here anything that it involves the lower arm I donīt have any clue of what could be possible go wrong |

Re: yukon 1997 wide turns
if You have or any other member of this forum have a Yukon 4x4 96-97
can count how many "turns" have the steering wheel? I mean getting the steering straight (with the gmc logo in the air bag straight) how many "clocks" (assuming of one turn itīs a 12 hours) and how many "hours" more the each side of the turns? (all for the left and all for the right) starting in the center place. just for have an idea of how it supposed to be. |

Finally found out whatīs wrong with my truck
my mechanics replaces the lower arm with a suburban lower arm tough it fits to my truck, itīs not identical and I found out that the suburbarn lower arm, has a little "dent" inside the lower arm which prevents to my truck to make a wider turn hereīs a pictures from my lower arm the right one and the wrong one Iīm posting this just to finish with the problem that I hade Good Luck to all |
