Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

I have been toying with this for a while now, and seeing as I have just increased my own Mclaren library with a new addition, I thought I may as well make a thread on it.

I have recently bought Michael Cotton's GTR [with #03R in West livery on the front] as I thought it was about time I got one after hearing about how good it was from Le Man and finally tracking one down and then being in a position to buy it.

So, which books of the Mclaren F1 are in your collection?[/quote]

============================================

I got 2 McLaren F! GTR books by M Cotton yesterday - 26/04/2018 - from a NPO....thought nothing of it as I was always a F1 fan...bought one in 1995..1:18...

As I opened the hard cover I saw a note....
"Dear Mom
What a good year
lots of love,
Gordon. X"

Note in Second book to his brother.

Well it hit me in the face....
Gordon was also the designer of the McLaren F1.....could this be from him....

I Google'd his signature.....and found that it matches 99.9999999%

Now just waiting on conformation from his PA in the UK at Gordon Murray designs...

See pix....what do you think...and Value...
Books got some sticky pages from not being used....

Will keep you posted...

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

Wow, in a search for interesting paperwork, as often, I'm amazed about the brochure prices.
Take a look at this one; GBP 2.250,- for a GT brochure....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/McLaren-F...wAAOSwMYRagB5t

Or even softcover sales brochures over 1000 euro

I don't understand those prices.
Offcourse, these are asking prices, and not true sales prices, but still a lot of money.

What are your thoughts on reasonable money for paperwork?
For example; (sales) brochures and owners manual (which I'm still after).

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

I seem to have a number of WEST covered Michael Cotton GTR books coming my way within a week or so.

Seeing as I bought them in bulk I can do them a little cheaper than what you see on eBay if anyone is after one?

PM me if you do

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

I am aware of another F1 GTR Le Mans book being produced to mark the 25th Anniversary of it winning Le Mans in 1995.

There are some decent legendary names associated with the book, both in photography, drawings, prologue, author etc and there will be various editions depending on price, with exclusivity relevant to historic numbers associated to the F1 and F1 GTR.

I'll keep you more updated on here the more I learn from the guy behind it all and the closer to the actual reveal the more I can let out on here

Get saving, its going to be EPIC!!

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

This isn't the book I alluded to above but some off here have helped with it

£450, or £1500 for a rarer /50 version

Re: Books on the Mclaren - Which ones to get and why

Hi chaps - keen mclaren F1 fan here, enjoying the various book suggestions that come up on this thread, wondered what you think the value of a driving ambition ‘le mans’ book edition 1 of 59 would or should sell for? Seen one coming at an auction but unsure what kind of budget I’d need/what a sensible offer would be- thanks for any guidance
