Vanishing Instrumentation!
I have a '96 900T with a strange problem. Everything will be working fine then suddenly ALL instrumentation including speedometer, guages and dash lights go out. After a random amount of time the alarm sounds and a triangle displays and everything comes back on. This cycle repeats itself in an irregular pattern throughout the day. Sometime I have perfect instrumentation for 60 miles and then it can be a flickering light & guage show. Pounding the dash has no effect so I don't believe it's a loose connection and all fuses were checked. Seems to be connected somehow with the warning system. Anyway I'm stumped. Anyone have an idea on this?

Re: Vanishing Instrumentation!
I should probably clarify that this is a FUNCTION problem, not just a lighting problem. ALL functions stop; speedometer, gas, temperature guages drop to "0" as do the tach, and warning indicators on an intermittant basis.

Re: Vanishing Instrumentation!
I have a 94 with the same stuff. I eventually traced it to the ICE module
(integrated central electronic module) mine had condensation damage and was visibly melted when removed.. on other vehicles this module is generally called the body control(or management) module...BCM...Saab decided to use ice....this controls every electronic thing in this car...mine is fried and car does not get proper fuel econy ect.. just a guess... priced at $550 at gm in canada april 2008 or find and MATCH the nuber on the case ... and do ebay..I saw some for 25$ btw my car just blew the timing belt....argh. I love this car...the v6 is garbage though. good luck btw it is easy to remove and check yourself...if you have basic mechanical skills. I removed mine in maybe 3 minutes ..it is located directly above the large relay box ..its hiding attched to the top of it..left side of column .. hope this help |
