is the resonator in my exhaust really necessary

hey i am getting my exhaust redone. i already have the bolt-on exhaust on and i just got some headers. and since i drive an hx. my manifold and cat are kinda made into one. which means that i can bolt on my headers and lose both the manifold and cat with no welding and when emission time comes i can just put the manifold and cat back on. but my question is that i am going to get the pipe between my headers and bolt on exhaust replaced with 2'' pipe and i was wondering do i really need that resonator on my exhaust there because i heard that it keeps the noice down or something like that. how much louder will it be.

a car is significantly louder without the resonator, i replaced mine with 2.25" pipe and its a lot louder than what it used to be, but most companies sell silencers you can put into your muffler tip to lower the volume.

i dont know about where you are...but in ri it is not illegal...and if you get pulled over, just put in the silencer to shut them up...then take it out.

as to how loud it is..well. its loud. like, if i put my crappy factory speakers up to 25 i cant really hear it anymore...i can feel it though..heh, when you rev really high it gives you that descending in an airplane feeling in your ears..just chew gum..

it isnt as loud as a gun...but it isnt going to wake up your neighbors...unless you rev hard down your driveway for some reason. it takes some getting used to..like a week or two. i went from the stock pipes to 2.5" without the resonater...and its louder than it was..heh

Get rid of it.

You know when the bass in a speaker gets so deep and low that you just can't hear...that's how loud it is. It's great! You tend to get used to it.

if I was you I would leave it becuase I see no real reason to take it out plus trust me when I say your car will be MUCH louder once you take the cat off plus it will put out a nice smell =) heh

I found that my smaller D15 was really loud with just a cat back exhuast I guess the smaller the engine the louder it is now my car is very deep throtty to the point of big Chevy and Ford guys really liking the sound
I guess the F1 car sound helps out too =) hehe

as far as cops getting on you in maryland some countys they can pull you over for a loud car I can't remember what they went by but it was if you can hear it from so and so many feet away but for the most part no cop will every pull you over unless your running stright pipes out the side of your car =)

do keep in mind that if you get pulled over and a cop is new and has his head way up his butt and wants to check for a cat if he finds nothing there he can make you get out and leave the car there and have it towed away to get it fixed on top of maryland the top fine is $5000
for not running a cat

for the most part the only time you will ever run into any cop or any one looking for a cat is at the smag station so I would not worry to much about it but it is another reason to leave the resonator becuase you can put a head shield over it and say its a cat =) "most people are dumb enough to fall for it"

also if your redoing your exhuast atlest do 2.1/4" if not 2.5" later on you will thank yourself

I kinda wish I went with 3" knowing me in a year or two I will change it over to 3"

check out http://www.angelfire.com/ky/jeffiesp...da/honda2.html

also if you change the honda2 to honda.html theres more pictures of the engine
