Removing the Inside of Roof by Myself?

Hi.

So my moonroof on my '06 Fusion has a serious problem and my mechanic friend said that to diagnose why the glass is

barely moving when I press to open it, someone would have to remove the entire inside of the roof just so they

could get a look at the rail assembly and motor. He said that labor alone is gonna be about an hour and dealers

charge $105/h or so. The motor is $298 and the rail assembly is $1,035. I don't have that kind of money.

So I'm thinking of taking out the inside of the roof myself so I can have a look and play around with the moonroof

even though I'm not all that handy.

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of thing and can tell me if an amateur can do this? Or if really a pro

should be doing this?

I figure I just have to get something thin and flat and stick it in between the roof panel and many points along

the interior frame of the car and try to pop it off.

The car is getting old and and I own it and there are a few blemishes on the inside so it's not like I'd be

devastated if I can't put the inside of the roof back in perfectly.
