Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

Peice of cake man. though you may have to up a fuse, im not sure if adding the fogs on the parking fuse will tip it over or not.

anyway, remove the side marker light (one screw and a clip) you will have three wires going to that light, one is ground, one is parking lights and one is turn signals. Strip one of the wires that is not the ground.

Go underneath the front bumper to where the foglights are, strip a section of the positive fog wire harness and splice in a 2ft length of wire. (not much power here so prob a high quality speaker wire will work)

now attatch the other end of your new wire to the stripped section on the side marker light, turn on your parking lights, if your foglight doesnt come on then hit the hazards (**Note the turn signals only work when the car is on so always test with the hazards**) if the fog wasnt on then it should now blink with the flashers, this means you need to use the other positive wire on the side marker light.

MAKE SURE TO USE TONS OF ELECTRICAL TAPE AND COVER ALL OF YOUR BARE WIRES!!!!

now do the same for the other side.

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

Good post liquid. I am planning on doing the exact same thing. People are wanting to route into the underhood fuse box and the main wiring harness to try to make this shit more difficult. I've already had that same idea in my head for awhile.

But instead of just stripping wires and guessing get a test light. They are cheap as hell and will save you time and effort.

And one more thing. You MAY want to consider wiring an inline relay between the fogs and parking lights. I am sure the fogs draw some nice power and the relay could prevent a melt down. I am by no means an electrical guru so you may want to consult with someone who is.

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

i do agree with stealthee because the fuse that controls the parking lights is only i believe a 15amp one and the foglight relay is a 12v one so i probably will end up putting a relay in between since the voltage difference is pretty big...better be safe than sorry

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

i'm not sure, but if u were to take off the bumper in the future, would the wires that u just connected get in the way? as in , would u have to cut them when u remove the bumper? i know it'd be a simple fix, but it'd be nice to know. :] thanks

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

Being the fogs plug in at the bumper then no there is no issue. You have only added an additional wire to the harness.

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

with it setup as described, would pushing the fog light button on the dash still turn the fogs off, or would that lose all functionality?

what i would ideally do is have the dash button control the fog lights in any situation, but still turn off when i turn the car off.

EDIT: sorry, just realized you kinda covered this in the other thread

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

Yeah Blink, thats what im looking into next, thats what i want also, but im trying to do it in a way that i wouldnt have to take the dash apart lol

But it might work anyway if the ground wire for the fogs goes through the fog switch inside the cabin. But im guessing that it doesn not. hmmm, idk, ill have to think on it a bit.

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

if you just need to get to the back of the switch, the instrument bezel is only like 5 screws. 2 minutes tops...just make sure your steering wheel is as low as it can go.

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

that easy huh?

Ive been thinking about it and I came up with two options, one being to wire the fog switch to a hot wire like the red radio wire or maybye the 12v antenae wire.

the better option would be to get into the headlight handle (switch) and find the fog wires and bypass the switch, this would make the fogs directly responsive to only the fog switch instead of the fog and headlight switches. that would be great actually because there would be no changes to any wiring really, just less to the headlight switch.

anyone have any exp on these switches? how do you get to the headlight switch?

I might get a chance to mess with it next weekend. Once I get my test light I will post a how to if no else beats me to it. I am the one who came up with the how to on the 1g to 2g headlight wiring issue.

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

haha, putting all the minds together to solve the fog light issue haha, would have been easier if mitsu had of designed them that way, but oh well, I look forward to getting this done, now im all about it.

Re: how to get the fog lights on with the parking lights

The reason Mitsu didnt do it like this from the beginning is because its actually against DOT standards...... :
