Exclamation '06 T&C Touring 3.8L Cylinder 3 misfire code for CEL Showing

Well my mom has a 2006 Town & Country with the 3.8L in it and the CEL light in on and the code is showing cylinder 3 misfire. The van has 255K miles on it. Has brand new plugs and wires on it. Brand new catalytic Converter and brand new EGR Valve. Can not get rid of the code for anything. Tried running both several bottles of Lucas fuel injector cleaner, and SeaFoam motor treatmeant through the fuel system to clean the fuel injectors real good. Also had the repair shop run multiple tests on it including testing the coil pack and changing the injectors around, changing plugs around, changing wires around, etc, etc trying to see if the code would change, nothing would change it. If you erase the code, it might stay off for a little while, but which in 60 miles or first time getting gas, it comes right back on again. Shop can not find any reason for the check engine light to be on other then possible computer glitch and recommend taking it to Chrysler Dealer. The problem is, we are dirt poor and can not afford dealer prices and also at the end of this month emissions are due, so the light has to be off by then and off long enough and codes cleared of the system long enough for us to pass emissions. Any anyone please help on what to do? I forgot to state that the shop said they can not find any sign of any misfire, other then what the check engine light shows........and as far as running wise, it runs great, no rough running, no problems, at all, which is so puzzling about it all.

I have a 2002 gc 225,000 miles the coil bank/pack can have one section go bad and cause misfire to that cyl. I have replaced them and noticed you get better quality with better part has been worth it.

Thanks, I was thinking of the coil pack myself, however the shop feels confident its not the coil pack as it "tested" good, plus according to their head head mechanic if the coil pack were to be bad, it would cause a misfire on more then one cylinder, just not number 3 cylinder only. Don't know if that is true or not.

Nope I seen it with my own eyes. one coil section could be bad indeed -thatís how I found out not to go cheap but get a good one (I think it was 80.00 at Napa) however you could just swap plug wires at the coil and and see if the misfire moves. In fact on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Pa I figured it out. By doing that. (Also with engine running I got zapped pulling the coil wire off a known good section, then when I grabbed the suspect coil section wire (#3btw) I had no zap-lol

Thanks, do to the price of a replacement coil (Found one $20) and being something myself and my friend can put on like we did the plugs and wires, I figured I'd just replace it. May not be the best coil and may only have a 1 year warranty, but it would at least show whether or not the coil was the problem without costing much money.

In case I didn't make myself to clear on my last post, I did go ahead and order the $20 coil. $21 and some change to be exact. Now just to wait for it to come in for me and my buddy can install it.

Well here an update so far. Coil pack has been ordered and am actually waiting for it to come in which in the next couple days. However, for some reason, unknown why or reasoning behind it, when my mom started up the van today to drive it, the check engine light was off and stayed off the entire time of driving it including several times of being stopped, turned off and restarted. Drove about 60 miles and check engine light never did come back on, so when she got home she told me, and we took it on down to Emission Testing and it Passed.......what a relief, don't have to worry about it for another 2 years now. I'm still going to go ahead and replace the coil pack when it comes in since I have no clue when it last been changed, and due to the mileage and all it probably could use it. Not sure whether or not the check engine light will stay off at this point and time or not but even if it does, I'm not so concerned about it now, so long the van continue running good and it has valid emissions.

Re: '06 T&C Touring 3.8L Cylinder 3 misfire code for CEL Showing

Alright, after doing quite a bit a of driving today, the check engine light never did come back on and we got down to about 1/4 tank of gas so we went to fill it up, and once again no sooner we filled it up and started it, the check engine light came back on. This is I believe the 3rd the the light been off (although the longest ever) however no fail, after getting gas, the check engine light come back on, so i'm leading to believe there's a problem with the fuel system somewhere. Granted we are in no hurry or time crunch to get it fixed but would like to figure it out out eventually on whats causing the problem. Any Clue what could be the problem? If I didn't know any better I would suspect the gas cap of being bad, but I doubt a bad gas cap would give a misfire code, I'm sure it would give up the code for something to do with fuel fuel vapor leaking instead, am I correct?
