2001 Galant ES Braking concerns

Hello, i purchased a 2001 Galant ES from a dealership, but the brakes seem to ride funny im not sure if its just how the car rides, or if theres something wrong with the brakes, but here it goes: When im going slow,(under 20 mph) and i hold the brakes lightly it feels like the brakes have a bump in them, itll like slow it down, then release a bit, then slow down more, then release a bit, but only when i hold lightly on the brakes, is this normal????? Please help. Thx.

HI. No, that is not normal. Unfortunately, the Galant came with quick-use brakes - the brakes are fine... they tend to be smaller that the diamante's ...and the same as the lancer (not the new models). This means, you're using up brakes at a much faster rate..than should be for a mid-size sedan. The problem is the weight. The Galant is much heavier than a lancer, but with a 145 HP 4cyl, you don't notice.
At 60 mph to 0 mph... you're brakes do notice.
But don't fret. Mitsubishi's are engineered exceptionally, and all you really need is maintenance. So if you're brakes are making noise, feeling or acting funny, have them checked. The worst possible thing you might find may is an engine mount is worn ($85) [which could cause the bump], you need a new caliper ($145), - or perhaps you just need new brakes ($180-$200). Good luck.

the rotors must be turned in your case, if it looks like you need to replace brake pads as well, go for the whole package replacing the rotors as well, turned rotors not as good as new, when turned they only get thinner and closer to its end.
