92 318 hesitation
Occasionally, won't start. Engine turns over great and seems to want to start but when I let off the key, no start. Smell of gas coming out of exhaust. If I do a quick turn of the ignition key and then let off, it seems to help.
Kind of reminds me of the starting problem I had with my 87 Sport Fury when the ballast resistor failed. Don't think the van has one. Put a new coil on and that seemed to help at first but after 2 days the problem returned. New distributor less than 1000 miles ago. New rotor, cap and wires maybe 5000 miles ago. Plugs look great. Also have a hesitation on slight throttle. Runs real strong otherwise. Don't know if they are connected. Noticed an engine surge when I coasted into the drive way just as I was coming to a stop. Any ideas? thanks |

145K but I put a reman engine in and had the trany rebuilt about 40K ago. New radiator, replaced most of the basic sensors, belts and hoses. Nothing to the idle control or ERG systems execept the PVC valve.

Re: 92 318 hesitation
At 142K the time chain set should still be okay. Have you changed the crankshaft position sensor?
