Has anyone built the Tamiya Toyota GT One Race Car?
I just got it today and wondered if you had any tips on putting it together.

I haven't, but it is my favorite LMP car, so I may pick it up eventually. Or perhaps the "Full-View" version molded in clear plastic. The Full-View comes with a driver figure.
So, once again, I'll refer to Hiroaki Fukuda's spectacular reviews. Here is his take on the Toyota GT-One TS020. He also shows the Sakatsu Dress-Up set of photoetched and machined parts, an alternate set of decals from Studio 27, and a set of carbon fibre decals from an unknown manufacturer. You'll wish you had those, too. I hope he doesn't mind. He's just so darn good. |

Are you into detailed pics? I have some good detail shots, though they are of the earlier version with the nicer white swooshs on it! (Why did Tamiya do the duller version?)
I ca scan them for you if you want, though they might get you into the super detail side of things! (Oh NO!) |

That would be great. But I don't really have the experience that you all have. I have done some models. They were mostly just Revell. I have never put together a Tamiya. I started on an F50. I just find it hard to do all of the detail work. I really hate it when the insructions say to paint a really small piece three different colors.

It will be a good help to get the detail photos from Guiddy.
One of the most important things i believe to have is time . It's not a race to finsh it...take your time with the kit...read it over carefully so you know what to do almost with out looking at the prints. When you get a change to do work on it...sit down and have the change to spend a couple of hours on it. Dont rush it...the end product will be a lot better.

OK, here are some detailed shots. Notice they suggest Fiat Red #305 for the body colour.
I have a massive version of this scanned, about 500kb. Where shall I send it? Email me with your address... BTW Warren, I also have something similar for the D2 LeMans Merc CLK! Do you want me to do the same? I also have most of the rally cars in similar shots, and also most of the rally cars support trucks. |

Hey Guiddy don't worry about sending it. I don't think that I will that much detail into it. Wasn't that car in Gran Turismo 2. I know there was 3 versions in the game.

Three GT-Ones were in GT2: '97 race version & '98 road and race versions.
They handled like a dream for me. The R390 gave me some trouble, though... |

Where can you get the swoosh decals for the GT-ONE? Would it be available online as I'm in Canada. Need to catch up on some reading since I'm new to this site. Thanks.

WELCOME! (where's Jay with his big smilie?)
For general modelling things check out: www.hlj.com - HobbyLink Japan. These guys are great with cheap prices and fairly quick shipping. Studio27 does a lot of custom decals and details overall. Search around the site and let us know if you need help.

I have a TS020 Full View, I plan to get the regular version so I can do them side by side in the future.
My question is, HLJ reports that the real-life decals for the GT-One aren't included by Tamiya due to licensing problems. I saw a aftermarket decal sheet with the real sponsors on it awhile ago on eBay, but it hasn't shown up recently. Does anyone know who makes this decal sheet or where I can find it? thanks |
