3rd to 4th gear slippin'
Okay, so when in half or full acceleration, from 3rd to 4th gear, the transmission slipped for about a sec.. only between 3rd and 4th.. all the rest works fine...
Somebody told me that maybe it was the ECC.. What is the converter clutch do exactly??? And btw, its a 2000 SE Intrepid with the 2.7L engine.. 254 000 km.. Transmission fluid color is red(3000 km since flush) and I use only the Mopar kind ATF or AFT+4... Also, is it expensive to fix the problem?? |

btw.. the dealer change a hose on my tranny and instead of putting back the same fluid, they put an other one with dexron on it.. is this maybe the problem.. so maybe if I only change the fluid, can it help??
Sorry, I just checked my bills |

Re: 3rd to 4th gear slippin'
Throw some Lucas Oil in it. It prevents slippage.

Thanks for replying..
Another question: I went to a transmission garage and the guy told me that he has pull off all the clutch before getting to the 4th one.. so Do you think its best for me to change the gear or to change the transmission?! |

Re: 3rd to 4th gear slippin'
another thing I thought of that they can do is go to a dealership and have them do a CVI (clutch volume index) and see what exactly the values are. Also, have them do a pressure check.

Re: 3rd to 4th gear slippin'
i would change the oil with ATF+4 a couple of times as you cannot drain the torque converter so drive it between oil changes and then asses your situation oil is cheap

Re: 3rd to 4th gear slippin'
thanks.. For three days now, the tranny didn't slipped at all.. I'll try to take an appointment with my dealership for the pressure check etc..
Last time they told me that if my engine light doen't light, they won't be able to find any trouble on my car, isn't right? |

Re: 3rd to 4th gear slippin'
that's not necessarily true, if you go to a Chrysler dealership, a factory-trained tech will be able to spot a potential problem if he hooks up a DRB III scanner. For me, if I'm reading the CVI values on the DRB III, I can tell when a transmission needs a rebuild based on those values on the screen.

okay good! Its been a week or a week and a half since I've put some Lucas in my transmission fluid and since then.. no more slipping!! i'll wait a bit and if the problem's getting back, I'll go check it at a dealership trans tech.
