Re: 2012 Theories... lets not flame here please
I'll be wide awake too, preparing for the zombie apocalypse.
Really though, as a person who feels that its ridiculous to believe that we (humans) are the only intelligent life anywhere in the universe, I'm very curious to see if any neighbors will be making a grand appearance. If it weren't for the inexplicable wonders found all across this planet, I probably wouldn't be so open to that possibility.

Re: 2012 Theories... lets not flame here please
My boyfriend just hopes it's true so he doesn't have to marry me. LOL
As for my own stance... the Mayans were freaking SMART folks. Anyone who works in base 20 for basic arithmetic calculations deserves mad crazy props. Because I have seen a lot in their use of mathematics, I lend more credence to their calendar and its meaning than I do any religious implications that 2012 may hold... but all the same, who can blame the Mayans for saying "enough is enough - this calendar is gonna last us like FOREVER" and just stopping at the next convenient stopping point in the solar cycle? I just don't know. :-/

Unbelievably smart they were. The fact that they could even recognize solar cycles without the aid of telescopes and any of the tools we have today is nothing short of amazing, let alone the ability to create a calendar that covers 5,000+ years!

Re: 2012 Theories... lets not flame here please
Too bad they never invented the wheel!
They also did not have the true arch, the cart, the plow, the potter's wheel, the bellows, glass, iron, and stringed instruments, all of which were present in the ancient Old World. Seriously, many ancient civilizations were more organized and advanced than we give them credit. Many of the architectural and engineering wonders of the ancient world attest to this. The Mayan cities, the monuments of ancient Egypt, Grecian city states, the Roman empire etc all were made possible by sophisticated civilizations with central authority and planning and specialization of labour. |

^I'm still waiting for the hoverboard to come out!!!
@MR- The amount of things ancient cultures were able to do with the very limited means of their time is amazing. Even when there was a massive amount of (slave) labor available, being able to build things like the Roman Colosseum had to be extremely difficult without power anything available. I know that you cant trust everything you see on tv, but check out the Aliens and Ancient Engineers episode of "Ancient Aliens" on History Channel. No matter what you believe, the construction of the places they show is fascinating and largely inexplicable. The whole series in fascinating imo but some episodes highlight topics that are heavily debatable and polarizing. Especially when they get into biblical explanations etc.

i don't believe in the 2012 thing, but after the 3.11 earthquake in Japan ( I was in Tokyo when it happened), make you think that anything can happen.
As long as I can die painlessly by being squashed in one go, or whatever, then I am fine with it |
