2011 Fiesta overpriced...

Today Ford unleashed the 'build and price' option for their new Fiesta. I have been patiently waiting for more details on this car, especially pricing, hoping I could get a loaded model for a really good price. To my surprise a loaded hatchback model costs just over $23K Canadian, which seems like a lot for a sub-compact. I understand it's loaded with features, this model includes heated leather seats, traction control, sunroof, 6-speed automatic, premium audio, etc. To compare I went to the Mazda site and built a 2010 Mazda3 Sport GS hatchback, and equipped similarly to the Fiesta the Mazda was cheaper than the Fiesta by $700. The Mazda is a roomier, larger car and also has Mazda's corporate 2.5L, 167-hp engine. To me, this new Fiesta looks good but should be $1500K less expensive for the high-end cars, and unless the pricing is adjusted or incentives piled on the hood, I'd choose a Mazda anyday.

Re: 2011 Fiesta overpriced...

You're right - after looking over the numbers again, it is in fact quite a bargain, especially if you get the lower-end hatchbacks without all the options. In Canada it ends up being like $20K after all taxes and destination, which is amazing for a car of this quality. Sure an SES loaded with leather is more, but it has the same equipment (and power) as a Mini Cooper but costs $5K less.

From those photos you posted, I'm definitely a fan of the Ford interior vs. the Mazda2. Whoever gets the sport version here first, that's who I'll go with - whether its a Fiesta ST or a Mazdaspeed2.

That has always been the way with small hatches:
you either go all the way and pay for all the extras and enjoy them or you get the absolute most basic version with nothing in it so it is cheap transport.
After all, they all drive in the same manner.

And it isn't just how they look.
The Fiesta feels a lot more solid than the Mazda; more "thunkier" as it were.

As for the sport versions.
I'd wait and definitely get a good drive in them first.
Do you guys get the RenaultSport Clios ?
Quite possibly the best hot hatch available right now.

We don't get Renaults, but with this Fiat merger I believe we will be getting the Fiat 500, and I'm crossing my fingers for the Abarth model.
