Real SL top speeds?

Ok...i want to know what the top speed on a SL would be? I dont know if they have a speed limiter or not but if they do what is the top speed for it and also what would be about the fastest that you could get a SL to go with out the speed limiter. I know that HKS has a SLD but is that the safest way to get the limiter off?

uhmm, a manual would probably able to get to around 147ish 148ish stock, an automatic will probably be able get to about 155ish stock (gearing), and yes an atx has gotten to 155 stock, Leland who used to work for 3sx performance tested it out

Re: Real SL top speeds?

No limiters on SL/Base's?

I was told that the 91 VR-4 got up to 191 stock...true or not?

What is the top speed of a 94-96 VR-4?

Re: Real SL top speeds?

Thats funny that a SL can go 148 and an VR-4 can only go 168...i would think that it could go alot fast then that...like maybe 180. How could you get a VR-4 to go faster?

I dont remember...for some reason i think that more hp doesn't mean more MPH...but it does mean getting to that speed faster. So how would you get a VR-4 to go faster if you cant do you with hp?

just add more power will get you a higher top speed, 5-speed vr-4s are geared to 200 mph and 6-speed vr-4s are geared to around 225 mph, its all about having the power to overcome wind resistance, lol 180? a C5 corvette can't quite do that and it has more hp stock, your not gonna find any car 350 hp or less that can really hit 180

The amount of horsepower needed to gain one MPH at 150 is four times what is needed to gain one MPH at 50. There is a reason why it takes over 1000HP to get well into the 200s range but only 350 to hit the 180s.
Some formula 1 cars run over 1400 horsepower with minimal wind resistance and they have a hard time getting to 260 mph.

i got up to 150 when racing a 6-speed vr-4 on the highway, i was still pulling quite a bit, but it gets pretty scary up at those speeds

patha, if your going to a 5-speed, why worry with the TCU, its just for the ATX. You'll just swap in the TT ECU and TT harness and it should be good for the tranny. The TCU is mainly just to control shift points on ATX cars.

Yeah I know- But I am gathering info for more than just one conversion.- That way we have all conversion info in one central location, instead of asking the same questions over and over again. I have service manuals also. I want to scan the diagrams and post them too when I can.

well, you can't swap in a tt ecu and tt harness in an atx car because of the TCU, so if your already a dohc, just throw on an s-afc and your good, and if your an sohc, you'd have to first swap in an n/a dohc engine along with the dohc ecu and wiring harness, then do a tt conversion to that and throw on an s-afc

Re: Real SL top speeds?

LOL... sorry...i didn't mean to make it sound like 148 is slow. Thats like...20 MPH faster then i have ever gone (on ground). It was scary when i got up to 128 on my sisters 95 SSEI Boneville. But yea...the reason why i was thinking that the VR-4 could go 180 is because my friend says he got his 2001 Camaro SS to go 186 MPH. I was like whatever but i didn't know. So with that in mind i would think that the VR-4 could go as fast as the SS. Sorry for the confusion.

I want to get a new name becuase dsm97gsx just doesn't go with a 95 3000GT and soon a 94-96 VR-4 lol.
