Re: sohc vs dohc
I use to street race back in the day and out of all the trixs the most important was to let the car breath. let me explain .....lets say you and i were to run a foot race but we both had to breath out of differant tubes. im 250 lbs and get to breath in and out of a paper towel roll, your a lean mean screamin 150 lbs runningback who has to breath out of a straw, i will win every time! the less restiction the greater the hp

Re: sohc vs dohc
The SOHC has better low-end power, while the DOHC has better high-end power and more potential.
However, the SOHC is arguably more reliable, and the Magnum (SOHC) has erased any power advantage the DOHC ever had in stock configurations. |

Re: sohc vs dohc
the real differance is one cam. joking
about 18hp diff, the sohc also takes better to bolt ons. I have owned both, the dohc is much faster. |

Re: sohc vs dohc
SOHC is great for low end but DOHC has great Top end.
Both can be made to perform great just that the SOHC needs a tad more work. Just get a DOHC tranny for your SOHC |

Perhaps you should drive a SOHC neon and DOHC neon then you will see what I mean. I own a SOHC the low end feels better then a DOHC... Don't be those kind of people that talk out of there ass |

Re: sohc vs dohc
You're comparing two completely different engines to each other, which isn't fair. As you no doubt know, VTEC was developed to make up for the DOHC's relative lack of low-end with two different cam profiles that work better in different RPM ranges.
We're all just car people here, so let's all be cool, OK? |

Re: sohc vs dohc
yeah, that makes sence, its harder for me to peel in my dohc, but my friend has the exact same car but a sohc, and he can go nuts, so the low end torqe thing, yeah that sounds right

Re: sohc vs dohc
the single overhead cam has a larger duration cam than the cams in the dohc, hence-alot of sohc cam neons are used fo autox, they have quicker pick up at lower speeds
