95 lumina 3100 and 4T60E trans problem

On a long drive 2 weeks ago was cruising down the interstate and had to slow down for some today construction and when I got through it and resumed speed I noticed I had no overdrive, I stopped by a truck stop and checked the trans oil level and it was a pint low. Added oil and it began shifting into od. Is there a low oil level sensor that prevents od????

Now it seams to shift into second and lock up at the same time and does not unlock when pressing the throttle, it also seams to stay in lock up while slowing down for a stop. It hasn't killed the motor yet when coming to a complete stop yet.

Any comments on these problems?

It has over 300,000 miles and may be a time to pull it for a rebuild. I'm sorry that I can't use the search here on this tablet.

Thanks Scott

Sounds like the solenoid pack in the valve body is bad, but at that mileage an overhaul is in order.

No dought on the mileage.
Not too fimalure with the E models.
Done the older ones and I'd like to run a few more miles with this one and fix the lock up problem.

As I drove it to work, a 45 mile trip. It worked ok cold, unlocked with the brake pedal pressed with light throttle.
Then half way there it wasn't unlocking with the brake pedal pressed and no unlock under throttle and I could tell it wasn't unlocking at a slow down until it down shifted into low.

Time will tell, but in the mean time I'd better make plans to pull and rebuild it.

Thanks for the prompt get back Maxwedge.
C-ya Scott.

What do you mean by locking up? Or do you mean it's not shifting?

Have you checked for codes?

This is a job for a scan tool on a road test........

But at 300K, I tend to agree with Max.....any history on maintenance?

Howdy to teck 2.
Lock up torque converter is hanging up. Trans is shifting OK with the exception of the torque converter locking up as soon as it shifts into second gear and as you press the throttle open its not unlocking and it bogs down the motor.
Now tonight on the way home it was working flawlessly.
No check engine light.
Remember that this is a 95 and obd1.
No history on the car. Copy that on the mileage and it's lucky to of went this long
Thanks for your response again tech 2

Has the trans oil been changed regularly?

Well.... with out the T/Chuck locking up you guessed it. It got hot and took out the front bushing and I was on the road and had no other choice but to have a shop in Grand Island NE. Pull and build it.
We will see how this goes.
Thanks to everyone who replied.
