First EVO in the USA to hit the 9s and still counting...

The 350Z, the STI, the RX-8, the EVO, and the SRT-4. The new class of Japanese sports car. Since their introductions, tuners have been tunning the crap out of these cars. All these cars are great to tune but the only one so far in the USA to hit a 10 Second 1/4 Mile is the EVO, and guess what now it hit the 9s.

(Actually there is an EVO III in the USA that also hits 9s and is street legal)

My bad, just grouped the SRT-4 with the rest, it does run a Mitsubishi turbo though, but it is American.

As far as the street legal EVO III how is it street legal, the same way so many Skylines are legal here, the necessary modifications are made to make it street legal in the USA. Here is a street legal EVO V drag racing at New Jersey-

Define legal, some people did import Lotus Elises over here and made them street legal to sell in the USA. Infact one company, I forget their names imported Lotus Elises and swapped the engine out for a Honda B18C5 (Integra Type R) engine and sold them here in the United States. Many cars are technically not sold here, but get imported here by private companies and sold here.

People have imported Lotus' for years but with emissions regulations they have had to make alterations to the cars themselves. Lotus built the Exige so that it would meet our emission standards straight from the show room. The Exige actually has the heart of a Toyota, go figure.

That tried and true 4G63 motor in the EVO is capable of well over 750 HP. John Shepard is running 8.7's @165 with his 92 Talon. I'm running mid 10's with my 92 Talon.
