Thats really what im lookin for, n if tamiya would knock off the diecast stuff thad be swell as well, i wonder tho, doesnt it cost more on there part to make a metal chasis than a plastic one?...

But on the plus side tamiya has released an otherwise nicely detailed kit that is considered well workable, and in other pics of the SLR the doors closed fine.

With the amount of money that tamiya makes its not hard to physically make a kit. The unfortunate part is most likely the legal issues. It would be an incredible amount of money, hundreds of thousands per model im sure(if they can get them at all), for Tamiya to just pay for fees to whip out a new model of a new car. Another thing is about the occassional griping about new kit releases. Say when 2007 cars started and are, that a company like Tamiya would just go and make a new kit for all the kickass cars or trucks worthy of modelmaking nvm the different versions or styles of them right off the bat or within a year or so. That is a lot of money to invest on a lot of different items, and it will take time to see the profit from it. now think of doing that every year or so? They just have to watch their investments and try best to deal with legal issues like any other good company. Its better to release and make what they can when they can for new products. And in the mean time if they want to rerelease or make different versions of kits they already have licensing for and tooling for, that can satisfy modelers i think thats great. At least definatly better than absolutly nothing coming from Tamiya in the meantime. my

speaking of clear rims lol

Thanks for the pictures.

Tamiya have got the body spot on. I would be interested to see how they have rendered the die cast chassis into this kit.

Re: 06 TAMIYA MODEL SHOW with SLR sample pics

Does anybody have a pic of the real SLR Chassis?

Now there's only one question left, what about the statement with the half engine on the diecast chassis...

interior is pretty accurate

Re: 06 TAMIYA MODEL SHOW with SLR sample pics

I must say that even though the model is overly expensive (likely because of Mercedes/McLaren greedy licensing fees) and has a diecast chassis, the model as a whole looks quite nice and should satisfy the diehard modelers that really want it. I'm sure we'll be seeing some great ones built and on display here.

Funny, I wouldn't even be complaining about the 4000 yen price or the diecast chassis if it were a Mercedes Benz CLS 63 AMG Sexiest 4 door on the planet

Re: 06 TAMIYA MODEL SHOW with SLR sample pics

FYI guys.
That Tamiya Clear View CGT is NOT a new kit.

Ive had a clear view CGT sitting beside me here for months now It is a limited edition that i managed to snab off ebay, and im sure they only got given out at trade fairs.

I hope it dosnt turn into a full production kit, kinda would ruin it for me then

Re: 06 TAMIYA MODEL SHOW with SLR sample pics

None of those odd kits are regular products, and are only available in limited basis, usually at Tamiya fairs and hobby shows. Tamiya USA lists the clear body Carrera GT as an upcoming product, but the item number suggests that it'll be a limited run.

Personally, the diecast chassis of the SLR-McLaren kit is a fair representation of the flat underbody of the real car, except for the front suspension arms which should be separate.

The engine room is most likely the bathtub-type with a few additional layers to add the sense of depth (like CLK DTM), and probably not as detailed as the Enzo kit or even Carrera GT.

4200 yen is a lot of money, but I still appreciate Tamiya for releasing the kit.

EDIT: OOPS, after close examination, the front suspension arms are indeed separate. The under panel is quite accurate.

Re: 06 TAMIYA MODEL SHOW with SLR sample pics

I really would like to build that SLR, looks nice to me.
I never heard of an "clear-view" Enzo, shall be nice looking that thing
Carrera GT clear will be too expensive for me, but I have another question:
What does "diecast-chassis" mean?

Re: 06 TAMIYA MODEL SHOW with SLR sample pics

Initially the transparent CGT was only available form a hobby show in Japan and people paid a premium for them on eBay. I almost pulled the trigger myself. If it is being listed by Tamiya with a new model then it will almost definitely be readily available, albeit in a limited run..

The clear Enzo was initially given out at special events and then became a limited edition model that was available from a number of suppliers including HLJ. I bought one of these myself actually. I would imagine the same will apply for the CGT and the bike. It must be economies of scale in producing the kit - they have to make a certain number (box art, etc) to make it worthwhile. Some for giveaways or for sale at special events and the rest sold by selected suppliers.
