Re: would you buy another ford truck??

chevys and dodges have crappy trannys chevys you have to put 15000 miles on it before you pull anything heavy and the cummins motor is built by FORD... and chevys frames and frontends are very weak but the stick trannys in them are good the only other truck besides ford would a dodge 2500 with a stick

converted chevy guy

I used to be a chevy guy until I bought a 2001 2500 HD (my sixth new chevy in 15 years). I had nothing but problems, and no sevice. I bought a 2002 f150 w/ the 5.4, and have only had to do an alignment. GO WITH THE FORD!!!

Replacing my 2nd owner 93 F250 with 230k with a 93 F350 with 90K. My truck has not been towed in 4 years I owned it. It has never had a valve cover off of it. The transmission is still the one that came in it and works perfect. I bought it from the orignal owner and have serviced this truck every 3000 miles. I am only replacing it because I need a four door. I would jump it this and drive it 1000 miles and not think twice. I dont think this truck is anyhing special it just has been maintained and not beat to death. All manufactures have had there problems, you just need to stay away from the bad ones.

Unhappy

Like my 88 F-150, nothin fancy but a sweet runner. My Explorer? Can't wait to unload it. Never had so much trouble with any vehicle in my life. Brakes especially, engine trouble also. Will most likely go back to GM or a MoPar when time comes to unload the Explorer, which will be soon.

Re: would you buy another ford truck??

I sold my 99 F150 x cab 4.6 4x4 after 20K miles. Bought the diesel and will never go back to gas again! For a 21 year old at the time the truck worked good and although it did have a 4 wheel drive issue it was covered under warranty in a timely issue.

Currently own three Ford's one truck two suvs's. Thinking about trading the Bronco for a F150 390 V8 1971 High Boy for something different!

Since when does Ford build the Cummins motor? Does Ford own Cummins? Does Ford own Navistar too?

Reality check here, Ford at one time owned about 15% of Cummins which was sold over 10 years ago. Now Ford has a contract with Navistar/IH which is not owned at all by Ford or it's subsidiaries. The 48RE is a pretty decent tranny when mated with the HO Cummins motor and the Allison 1000 seems to be holding up decently with the Duramax motor.

Re: would you buy another ford truck??

so the instructors up at wyo tech, are totlly wrong, because one of the instructors told me that, dont know anything, and when i worked at this construction company we had fords, chevys, and dodges, we allways had problems with the trannys in the dodges, and chevys, like replacing the trannys every 10 to 20 thousand miles, ok

Talking Re: would you buy another ford truck??

You bet. I currently have two Fords. A 79 F250 4wd with lots of mods that's running about 400 horses, posi-trak at both ends, 36" Military Hummer take off's, etc. I work on her a lot.. but then again.. last time she got stuck it was in mud in water that was 5 1/2 foot deep and even then if I hadn't sucked in some water she'd gone through it.

My other Ford is 2000 model XL with a v6 and standard OD trans. I bought her brand new in April of 2000 and now have 186,000 miles on her. Since new I've replaced the alternator ($120), the starter solinoid ($10) and the front end ball joints/controll arm ($700) which is a known weakness in this year model... but they didn't start giving me problems till around 140,000. The truck is running great, looks great (as in no rust) and I expect to see 200,000 before March of next year. Not bad for a truck I only paid $14,000 for. Oh.. I use my truck like a truck, pulling my boat, hauling stuff that weighs way more than the trucks rated for, pull starting other trucks/tractors, pull'n people out of the mud/sand, etc.

Will I buy another Ford truck? You bet. But then again I also have '92 Nissan I used for my work comute and a '46 Chevy that I've had since 1978. So I may also buy other brands... but not for a truck. For a truck, a real truck....

it's gotta be a Ford!

You cannot believe everything you hear. Go to Cummins web site and find out for yourself who owns Cummins. After you spend hundreds of man hours on diesel web sites you will know more than you want to know about Cummins, Navistar, and Isuzu.

I talked with a guy who put four auto tranny's in a Cummins/Ram in 60,000 miles. I also talked with a guy who put four auto tranny's in a Navistar/Ford in 26,000 miles. My brother in law works with a guy who claimed to put 3 tranny's in a Navistar/Ford in one month (his truck).

To set the record straight again. Ford owns absolutely no part of Cummins and at one owned about 10%.

Do you own a diesel powered pick up?

Re: would you buy another ford truck??

I am currently driving a '96 F-150 4.7L, 213,000 miles and counting. No major problems yet. Will always buy FORD. Ford is like a ski-doo...great design and reliable.

Re: Re: would you buy another ford truck??

i agree. ford, chevy, and dodge didnt get where they are today by making bad trucks. although i have heard that dodges always seem to have transmission problems. ive never owned one. im driving a 2001 f-150 with the 4.2 V6. in it. it has 115k on it and it still has yet to have a problem. also another note..... The F-150 has been the number one selling truck for 22 years. not 2nd or 3rd any of those years but number 1. and 13 of those years the chevy 1500, silverados, ect. were cheaper.. so it isnt because the ford was cheaper. im my opinion, Henry Ford built the first automobile, so i will stick with the Ford. nothing against chevy or dodge.
