rb20det OR sr20det?????

i was lookin around for clips today and i found out rb20 clips go for like 2 grand, shocked i wondederd what was a better swap sr or rb. you would need all custom exuast and turbo piping for it right. so that costs $. but there about the same price when its all said and done.
witch would have more HP witch would be more reliable, cheaper. if you geta SR clip you only would need labor to put in the engine, but with a rb you need custom piping you cant use the stock intercooler and downpipe.

also whats the aftermarket support like for a rb20, is there much for it or is it a lost cause like the ca18det.

also i was looking a rb25det parts and the 25 and 20 look alot alike, is the 25 the same block as the 20, how much is diffrent for example would a 25 exuast and intake manifold, and a FMIC and down pipe fit a 20???

do you need driveshafts or will the ka one fit the RB?

it seems a rb clip costs me 2g's shipped a sr costs 2700 shipped, but the rb requires work after its put in to run so, i'me trying to weigh my options here, i found a shop and i got the money togeather! this is the next step.

also the rb25det seems like the best for a skyline swap but it costs more than i got its about 1500 more, but the rb26 requires so much fab woulent the rb25 be the better setup for the money???

yeah i'me a newbie, but help me out, i'me not askin you guys were i can find euro lights for my 240sx. i know u guys don't take kindley to newbies, but please help me out here??

Thank you
-G.N.

i think www.unstable-hybrids.com has a good amount of info on these swaps.

hey, aren't there two rb20det's a silver top and a red top, and doesn't one only have like 160hp or something? i'm not sure where i heard that.

all the newer ones had 215hp I believe. The older less powerful ones were used early in ht e early 80's on some wired cars. If your getting skyline front clips then its the 215hp version.

RB20 takes n more work than the SR20 ton install. The only bad thing about the RB20 is the intake piping. It goes over the engine making it the highest point on the engine SO you have to cut your hood skeleton in that area or get a CF hood. All things being. The SR20 and RB20 are so close in performance that it comes down to other things like prive, pars availability, etc. I chose the RB20 for price. I got my clip for 1200 bucks plus shipping. My total swap cost me around 2800 bukcs...around what most SR20 clips go for. Either swap is good and both cam make some good HP. The 20 and 25 blocls are different. Neiter the exhuast or intake manfiolds swap out on each other. The driveshaft does not need to be changed on the RB20. If I had more money, I would have gotten the SR20. Just because of parts. But eithe rone is great

Welcome to AF.

If you're going to buy a 2 liter engine for a 240, i guess it comes down to preference. The SR is the stock motor for that car, so it makes sense that it goes in with absolutley zero modification. It has the same displacement as the RB20(2 liters), and costs about the same to obtain and install. The SR definitley has the advantage in both replacement and aftermarket parts, so if drag racing is your forte, you might want to stick to the SR or even explore the KA-T. Unless of course you have a bunch of money and can source and buy any part you need at any time for your RB, then by all means, go for it. But if that's the case, I'm sure you wouldn't be worried about the extra 1500$ for the obvious choice here: the Rb25. If you're going to buy a 6 cylinder, go through all the hassle of swapping it, and making it work and tuned properly, don't you want at least another half-liter out of it? The RB25 is totally worth the extra money in every single way possible, to me at least. Stronger, more potential, more stock power, costs the same as the RB20 to maintain... But in the end, it's all up to you. Post some more about your goals for your car, and we can figure out whats best for you.

And yea, some people might be protective of this car. But for good reason. It's awesome.

Just don't be stupid and no one will flame you.

small cylinders = low torque

its not worth the extra weight, IMO

i would get the RB25 or the SR20.

and yes, for the price it takes to swap in a working RB26, you could build a kick ass RB25 that would rape a 26

LOL less torque??? The RB20 only has 20 less TQ than the SR20. There is more than just numbers. I like the RB20 and the SR20, but with the money saved on teh RB20 purchase, you can be well on to your way into a rebuild. And unless you can provide dyno slips comparing the TQ to both motors at different build levels, dont bring it up. I think the RB20 is worth the extra wieght..besides there are ways to remove/move weight around....

I don't really like the RB20...but then again I don't hugely like the SR20 either. My preferences are for the CA18 and the RB25 since they are both great engines and seem to be a better choice than either of the 2 liters you are looking at. Then again the RB20 is a little cheaper to get, but the install cost is the same as the RB25. So basically it comes down to you and your opinions. They are all great engines, but if you want a huge aftermarket support and fairly easy to obtain replacement parts (considering the engine was never sold here that says a lot) then the SR20 is what you want. RB20 and CA18 are a little harder to find replacement parts, but the CA18 can get NX2000 engine parts for many commonly replaced items. RB25 is a great engine is definitely the one with the most potential since it has an extra .5 liters on any other engine listed and it has an iron block which the SR20 lacks.

RB26 is also something you may want to look into as it has a lot of potential, it just costs a lot to get it installed and to get ahold of the engine. Once you get the engine though you could easily make 400hp from it's supposedly 280hp stock power.

It's completely up to you...my choice though is RB25 if you're going to do a swap...but sticking with the KA24 is a really good idea if your power demands aren't too steep (250-300hp is where the KA starts to cost quite a bit and starts to lose some reliability).

Re: rb20det OR sr20det?????

Sry if this is an old post and im just buggin y'all, but...
Is everyone from the States in this post because, here in Japan, RB engines come and go like rain in a forest. In terms of the price SR's might be higher over or RB's in OKI (Okinawa).
