Porsche 997 GT3r 2012/2013 1/24

My idea is to convert fujimi 997 gt3 model into the latest version of the gt3r, and maybe finish it in Haribo livery, to make something different than the slimmer fujimi version.
I start collect some infos and pics. This car is very common in modern races, and many like her fat bodyshape.

I was lucky to spot an italian one at autorlando (redolfi - Bergamo) team back in 2013, and at the time cant think to build one.

Haribo team. I love this company ! It reminds me of my childood, and they like to race with german supercars.....this is (of course) a less common version with that smiling happy fat bear on her...always racing at the ring. Definitely Mine !
And I am still addicted to their Rotella candy as like a drug....

The body is quite different from fujimi box. It is anyway nicer imho to work on plastic parts than over metal like I did with the rsr 991.The wheelbase and original car here is still the 997 serie...so fujimi is the way to go.

in this pic all the parts that must be modified. It is half of the car..

you and your super nice haribo gt3r are responsable for this build

so here the ricetta starts...
the main work is to enlarge all the fenders. For this as usual I work with milliput, better if white (finest). I had a little piece from standard so I use that..
My way is to work with multiple layers of material, cause milliput is quite thick as filler and is not so easy to place it in the way it looks smooth. It is not an easy task, but you have to know the time it need to become dry. There is a window of some hours where u can still retouch and work over it.
Its a clay I really like.

and after many many maaaaany sanding, new clay and new filller, you should arrive to this look...

remember the front end should look like this..

and is always better to check lighter colors pics cause in my specific version that is not so clear..

from 2010 car also side skirts changes (a lot också..)..

Re: Porsche 997 GT3r 2012/2013 1/24

the side skirts will be made in 2 different times, before I will keep them straight down, and only at the end I will create the side lip, specific for this version. In Autorlando car that was very evident..

if only this italian racer had a nicer livery I could make it....but that german teddy bear from haribo for me is much nicer..and even more that terrible bright green spots allover the car..

as many of you are thinking...YES, the hardest part of this conversion is that 8 vents on the front fenders....I wellknow is the hardest job to do, and also so visible..

but before operate in such area I really need the clay to become absolutely stonehard....

Re: Porsche 997 GT3r 2012/2013 1/24

front vents

and rear vents

the front lower lip from fujimi is not correct for a late gt3r. must be flat in the bottom, without spoiler (here becomes just a flat blade, not part of the front fender

this must be modified

as well as the exhaust area is different

even more clear here

the 8x vents in position

and rear vents

then the last part will be the side skirts under the door. This gt3r Has a little lip that must be moulded an the lower part of the door side. It is completely different than fujimi body part...will use some thick alluminium to give this shape.

Looking around I also seen nobody ever made this body. I mismatch to the RSR car from the same years, based on 997 car. No body of this very common gt4r are around, and the best past is that body worked in this way fits perfectly on fujimi model (I didnt touch the referring internal parts from the original box.
Think it is worthed a little production, so if somebody could be interest please let me know.

I got several mails from german collectors, honestly didnt seriously search any conversion neither from body slot moulded in gfk. It can be interesting and decals are also around (as mine one from DMC).
Seems incredible there is really nothing in 1/24 for this fat-body aggressive porsche gt3r around. It is a very very common racer around the world, and another beautiful special porsche.
More details on this cast coming soon....

Really beautiful work on the body modifications Paolo.

How difficult was it to shape the Miliput "white" ??
How long is the curing time to harden completely ??
Lastly Paolo what tool did you use to make the panel lines so crisp?
Cheers
John

hi John,
what do you mean as difficult? Milliput is a clay originally made to fix boat hulls and heating elements. Many prefer different other ones as Duro or sculpey. I am an old fella and like old school bloody british ugly stuff, like milliput is

Curing time depends from the layer u apply. Mine here was uite thick so it took up to 3 days before u can start to work on it. When completely dry is hard like a stone and is possible to make panels lines with an ordinary scriber or just the modeller cutter, as I did.

Hope this helps

in the next few weeks I will know if possible to cast copies of this body. I am surprised to see how many like and are interested in this fat ass porsche

Fantastic work Sir. The modelling skills and creativity shown on this website are top quality. It's great what can be created from the basic ingredients.
