piston slap
i think my 02 olds silhoutte with 74000 miles (no coolant leaks yet) has the start of piston slap or is it my ears? at 63000 miles it sounded ok with the outside temp of 70 f . now with the temp in the -20 to -30 f is when i think i can hear the slap. i went to www,pistonslap.com and had a listen to the sound clips and it kind of sounds the same ( mind you i think they are useing a small block gm to my 3400 ) and its a bit diff tone. or it could be a acc on the drive belt making a noise. any ideas.

Re: piston slap
iam thinking its an acc noise. oil comsumption apx 1/4 of a us qt in 2500 to 3000 miles ( its on castro sintech for the last 8000 miles ) with no change in oil consumption in the last 12000 miles is not related to piston slap. there is a bit of slap on a cold start -20 oF thats normal. I listened to it twice today and it was quiet so i will get the stethoscope out and have a listen to the Serpentine Belt ,Idler Pulley,Tensioner Pulley,Water, p/s,a/c Pumps,Alternator and the pully groves. it is parked over night in the garage at a temp of + 45 oF so its not a ice problem. 463 thanks maxwedge (cool car photo, my dad had a 64 4door dodge.
