1990 Cressida no compression
I have a 1990 Cressida with the in-line 6 twin cam engine that has no compression in the first two cylinders. The other four cylinders have 180 psi. Does this sound like a blown head gasket or a valve problem? I tried adding oil to these two cylinders to get some compression, but it did not make any difference. Any ideas?
Thanks. |

Either way you are going to have to pull the head. What were the symptoms that led you check the compression?

I would check for broken valve springs before I pulled the head.

Re: 1990 Cressida no compression
I got the head off last night and it is definitely a broken head gasket between cylinders 1 & 2. It looks like it has been this way for a long time. I am going to take the head into a shop and get it checked. My concern now is for the injectors. The injectors for cylinders 1 & 2 have carbon build up on them and the ports are clogged with carbon. I don't know if they can be cleaned by hand, I figure it is safer to just replace them. The wiring for the injectors seems to be old and brittle. I found a break in the insulation of the wires for the first injector. The copper wiring has some green corrosion in it. I may need to patch some of the wiring. This will give me some practice with my new sodering iron.
Thanks for the input. |

While you have the head off use a flashlight and look for a crack between the two cylinders. Then use a straight edge and check the block. While it is generally the head I have found small cracks between the cylinders. They usually fix these with two piston liners.
