Re: ’73 Camaro

Looking great all around. I have a question for you, I've noticed a lot of casting of pieces (with others too). Do you just keep a stash of parts specifically for copying? And do you have just molds of previous work tucked away?

Re: ’73 Camaro

Not really. I make masters or modify existing parts to fit what I need. The 4 speed trans for example went back into the near virgin kit so it can be built. I try to make copies first then modify my casting so the kit parts remain intact.

While I do keep the molds I usually don't run them unless I need that part, or sometimes I'll stock up on things like wheels when I'm casting and want to use up the leftover extra mixed resin.

Yeah, I've broken the 700R4 a few times too. Now it has extra clutches, the shifter has a 4th gear lockout for the track and I set the TV cable to shift at a lower RPM on the street. Been working fine for at least 18 years.

Re: ’73 Camaro

It's got to be great to make a model of a car that you actually own IRL. Very easy to get good reference. Keep up the nice and also very clean work!

Re: ’73 Camaro

I made the headers from a pair out of a Revell SuperTruck kit. I cut some of the tubes apart and made the flanges from brass. I cut off the long collectors and made new ones to match mine from brass and then added P.E. flanges.

Re: ’73 Camaro

This is the kit supplied ’70 console. ’73 Camaros used a different style.

I filled in, built up and reshaped the kit part.

Then I cut out the opening for the shifter plate in the correct location, added the console door and textured it.

Re: ’73 Camaro

I made a copy of the graphic equalizer. To give some depth to the shifter plate area I put the gear selector lettering and the blue plastic dust cover in the recess of the console. I made the shifter plate to sit flush above with some space between like the real car.

Re: ’73 Camaro

Thanks guys. The 1:1 is a blast to drive.

I made a Hurst T-handle shifter to match the real one. Yes, it is an automatic, but I custom made the shifter in the car to work with the 700R4. This piece can be filed away until final assembly.

Re: ’73 Camaro

Thanks!

I decided to use the kit provided engine with some modifications. First I cut the 4 speed manual transmission off and cemented the engine halves together.

After painting it I made a decal for the Fram filter.
