It wasn't really a truck though the engine has seen truck duty in different forms. The Viper engine, as far as I know, is based off of the Chrysler 360ci V8. This was used in a plethra of cars in the 60s and 70s. It has been used in the trucks and Jeeps. Jeeps with the 360 managed 6.0 seconds from 0 to 60 stock. It is not the same engine per-say, but it lends it's design to the 360.

Is that what you were looking for v10?

The team was Robert A. Lutz, Tom Gale (Designer), and Francois Casting (engineer). Caroll Shelby also played a rule in the production of the first Viper.
Why to show Viper 10 what you know. Oh BTW Viper 10, He didn't look up the information. I'm telling you he just knows. The reason he took so long to answer is b/c he gets on a computer every other day. Not every day.

Hit Viper 10 with another question 450HPviper. I want to see Viper 10 OWNED!

By the way, Shelby had nothing to do with the GTS. He pulled out early in the RT/10 prototype stages because of his heart problems. Peter Brock was was very involved with Lutz, Gale and Castaing on the GTS. He was the designed of the original Cobra Daytona Coupe. The GTS is a cross between the concept of the Cobra Daytona and the Ferrari 250 GTO. If you look at the profile, you can see GTO all over the GTS.
Very true, there were many phone calls between them and Carroll Shelby during that period. He also though that they could never remove more than three hundred pounds off the the production Vipers because most of what the put in there was as light as could be almost.

You are right, the basis for the Viper's engne was the truck engine, although the power ratings were all wrong and it was way too heavy, they also were going to put them engines in the 94 rams. They used expertise from Lamborghini though too and as you all should and probalby know, both the block and heads were cast in aluminum.

btw, i'm not the one lookin for that answer, I know my share about the Viper, but know one knows more than Brad, he is older than all of us and most importantly owns one, lucky .

I do agree though, the SRT-10 needs a little bit more curves, and my background is one of the sweetest GTS's i've yet to see.

Well if he knew the answer, why didn't he answer sooner, how many days, i' mean weeks did he have?? right.....can he not stand up for himself and not have you say everything how you THINK he knows more about Vipers and loves them more than anyone. My passion for a Viper is truly unbearable, it's one of the coolest cars, it is faster than hell and can run circles around Lambos and other exotics, and nothing is cooler than 505 cubic inches, i love every big engine, especially Mopars 655 CID engine, more on that later. I'm not just a fan of the Viper, i love almost everything Mopar. also Scott, i'm v10, not Viper 10, i would love to be in Viper 10's shoes though, haha. also i think it is my turn.

What is the first prototype/concept truck that a Viper engine was put in, this time there are limits, must be answered within a week, i think that's more than sufficient time.

I have an idea, either it is the 97 Trex or 97 dodge dakota sidewinder. I know both had a V-10. So my guess is the 97 dodge dakota sidewinder.

If I am wrong, who gives a shit, because the questions should be about the viper, not it's 8.0 V-10. At least I answered in less then 24 hours. Scott is right, I can only get on AF every other day, if that.

It's ok 450HPviper. The questions were supposed to be about the viper not it's engine.

Oh, so you dont care??, then shut the hell up about you loving the Viper so much more than anyone or knowing more about it, and yes that does include knowing about it's engine, and if you can't get on every day i'm sorry then, but please answer ASAP, i myself can't get on every day either because i'm involved in track meet on the Varsity team so i have to run every meet which is about 2-4 times a week. but please, dont take too long to answer, actually instead, let's just drop it, cuz truthfully, i dont mind because I know what i know about the Viper which is quite a damn bit, maybe not everything though.

Do you own a Viper?
Have you sat in a Viper?
Have you riden in a Viper?
Have you driven a Viper?
Have you felt the power? No, so you shut the hell up.

I can't quite see where the argument came from [I think too many ppl with too many hormones, but I dont wanna get involved] but knowing about what powers a car [drivetrain, engine, etc] is an integral part of knowing about it - without it's powerplant, ANY car is just so much scrap metal/plastic

I also don't see the relevence of the first car to use the Viper's V10 - but since the Viper was first built in 1996 I dont think any guesses of cars from '97 are gonna be anywhere near [I always thought the engine was actually devised in 'viper' form to actually go in the Viper concept car]

If you guys wanna argue can't you find somewhere better to do it than clogging up these forums ?

Can you be any more immature?? Have you ever heard of a learner's permit, must not have, it's a little card like a driver's license you can get at the age of 14 that allows you to drive with someone with their license, anywhere anytime. think about that dumbass.

Edit: Poly, any way you can close this thread because it's going absolutely nowhere, as Japmetal said, this thread is being clogged up by Moron 1 and Moron 2 aka scott and 450

With your permit, you cannot drive with just anyone. You can only drive with a parent (OHIO LAW). But anyway, by chance did you max the viper out, did you spin the tires?
