I have a 1992 Camry and I cannot always (it's intermittent) get the key out of the ignition when turning the car off. I always can IF I disconnect the battery before removing it. That is a big pain!!
I suspect that either the ignition switch is bad or that there is something not telling it that it is in park and that it is ok to remove the key.
I understand that there is a mechanism next to the shift lever under the console that conveys to the switch that the car is in fact in park that can go bad or get out of alignment.
I was wondering if anyone had experience with this issue that could advise where the problem USUALLY is. The Camry has about 225k miles on it but the key does not look all that bad and usually from my experience if the switch is bad in a car that you can't get the key to go in it.
Any advise is very much appreciated!
