Weird Yellow Wire dangling by gas pedal

I've got a 91 dodge shadow.

there is a yellow wire dangling by my gas pedal.

should i be worried?

where does this wire go?

can i put it back myself?

the car still starts, so i know that its not the yellow wire that goes to the starter.

however, my trip timer dosen't work, but i thought that that was mechanical...

anyhoo, if you know about this wire, please tell me.

Re: Weird Yellow Wire dangling by gas pedal

Your message peeked my curiosity, so I crawled under the dashboard of my Shadow to see what I could see. In my Shadow, right above the gas pedal, is a vacuum canister that operates a part of the ventilation system. The vacuum tube that plugs into this canister is bright yellow, and looks like a 10-12 gage wire, with a clear plastic, L-shaped connector the attaches the yellow tube to the vacuum canister. I suspect what you see dangling there is a vacuum tube. Look for the vacuum canister and see if it is connected.

By the way, what year of Shadow do you have??

Re: Weird Yellow Wire dangling by gas pedal

well, first off its a 91

ok, i went out into my driveway, put the seat all the way back, and got a good look at this wire. its like a pale pale green, it's got black tape on the end and is folded off. and it's coming from the steering column, i decided, after following it with my hand up into the dashboard.

since its taped and folded at the end, i can assume that its not supposed to connect to something, however... then why would it be there in the first place.

Re: Weird Yellow Wire dangling by gas pedal

I think I now know where this is going, but I need to ask you one very important question.

Below your instruments you will see a row of retangles, which contain warning lights. When you turn the ignition key to the run position, certain lights here will illuminate, including the "BRAKE" if your parking brake is set, "CHECK ENGINE" that illuminates for 5 seconds (both to the left of the steering column), the seatbelt light, which is a figure of a human torso with a seat belt around it, and "AIRBAG" that illuminates for 6 seconds (both to the right of the steering column). Here is my question:

Does the "AIRBAG" light illumninate and go out as I described above?

Please answer this question as honestly as you can. Then I can better tell you what this wire might be.

Re: Weird Yellow Wire dangling by gas pedal

does your shadow have a stock or aftermarket tach? it could be the dimmer/tack light wire.
