1988 Dual Tank Problem

I just inherited the '88 club wagon with 2 fuel tanks from my parents. I was driving and noticed the first tank was about to run out of fuel. I finally found the switch to change to the 2nd tank, but I think I did it too late. The van would not start and, as it was blocking traffic with no shoulder lane, the police said it needed to be towed. I'm going to pick it up today. How can I get it to switch to the other tank? I'm going to bring a gas can to put some gas in the tank that emptied. I hope I can start it that way and then switch the tanks. Any other ideas?

Re: 1988 Dual Tank Problem

If this is like the F-150 it has a small primer pump in each gas tank. The main fuel pump high pressure is along side the frame. Check if the solenoid is switching on a F-150 left frame rail behind cab. Check for power to the pump in the other tank.
