Mustang - questions about buying one

Hi all,

Help, I have no experience with Mustangs and now my wife wants one!

We are looking at maybe a used 06, 07 or 08 model, probably not a GT (to keep expense low, it looks like the GT is much more expensive). It has to be a blue convertible

Are there any "gotchas" with these cars that I should be on the lookout for as I look around for one?

I am guessing that there will be issues with the rear wheel drive in the snow (lots of power but not much weight). I live in Indiana so we get snow. Also am guessing that the convertible cover will give some trouble at some point?

Anything I should be aware of or ask about?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Mustang - questions about buying one

Don't let RWD scare you in the winter. Just drive carefully. Start off in second gear from a stop if you have to. And get a set of snow tires. I recommend General Altimax Arctics. They are voted the best snow tires on TireRack.com. I learned to drive with FWD and when I got my current car I discovered how much fun RWD is and that people who say RWD is bad in winter never tried it or just don't take the time to learn how to.

I also heard problems with head gaskets on the V6 models, but I can't verify what years that problem existed on.

Thanks for the reply, Blue)(Fusion. Sounds like good advice on snow driving - I have never tried anything other than "standard" tires.

Hey! Got blue 08 for my wife in may! She like it but gas goes fast. There is botton on shifter for O/D off. She had off and used more gas. Found it when I borrowed it one time.About 40,000 and it seems nice so far. Don't like the interior so much though. Like put leather seats someday.
