Lamborghini Diablo Verde

Hi,

This is my approach of the Diablo. Its the Revell kit and it's not bad at all. Although its a normal kit, its in fact derived from the snap-on kit they have.

I decided to paint it forest green as in the inspiration image. The paint is from a Tamiya can, decanted. I was very worried because I had bad experience with decanted paint, but this went sooo smooth that I can't believe.

I told myself that it will be OOB, but I couldn't stand some parts of the body. So I decided to modify them.

I started with opening the air intake from the side-skirts and removing the small fins. I will create them from styren and it will be easier to paint them black. I also worked the upper air intakes, adding some plastic to make them go deeper inside the intake as per real car.
I also modified the part that goes near the small side-window. That part of the body was molded in the clear parts, so I detached it, created one from a piece of blue plastic and glued it to the body, as per real car.
The tail-lights were getting too exposed and they should be more tucked-in. So I modified their socket and that will make them more realistic.
I also glued the mirrors to the body. Even if that stresses me every time I handle the body, I wanted to get that look from the real car.
I also added panel lines where they were missing, like on the A-pillar near the mirror and I putty-ed the signals on the side of the bumpers. I will add round ones made from a clear sprue.

Another thing I did was to add styren to the sides of the rear bumper, because the real car has the sides that connect to the body a bit more elevated :

Sadly, when I airbrushed the clear, the Lamborghini decal got a bit warped. Its under a few layers of clear now, can't do nothing about it:

I also fiddled with the engine hatch as the upper part had a very big gap between it and the roof.

Next, its paint polish and the interior.

Re: Lamborghini Diablo Verde

Nice work, the orange body only is strange, and the lack of plated parts is an interesting choice by Revell too.
The Green gives it a very elegant look.

I really need to finish my roadster!

Love the colour, good job! The Revell body looks better than I expected.

Re: Lamborghini Diablo Verde

Thanks for the comments. I fiddled with the suspension to get it exactly how I like it, but paused the build because of various life stuff.

I have to respray the rear bumper because I just noticed that is too long and in some angles it looks odd. I looked at some real life pictures and I must "shave" 0.5 cm. I have to redo the elevated side to match the contact size with the rear fender. Should be an easy fix.

Or should I leave it like this ?

The bumper should stick out of the body just a little. Mines sticks a lot and the photos from behind look odd.

Like in this photo (rear ride height was off here but nvm ) :

Re: Lamborghini Diablo Verde

IIrc the kit is based on a US spec car and the bumper is bigger because of that. The front spoiler is shallower on the US car as well. Fujimi's versions are better in that respect.

Re: Lamborghini Diablo Verde

Did not now that. Well then I must do it, as I removed the cat-eye markers from the sides. Not that it would matter that much, but for the sake of proportions

I have the Fujimi version too, it's better, the parts are thinner, the glass is way better, interior also. I will use some parts from the Fujimi kit as it has parts for 2 versions. Sadly, the seats, windows, door panels and the dashboard with the center console don't fit. And they are in double and better in the Fujimi version.

Re: Lamborghini Diablo Verde

Which Fujimi kit has extra parts? Not that I'll build another, but I am curious.
The working doors on the VT kit were not worth the effort for all the fit issues, while the body, interior and chassis did not fit together and required a lot of work.

Re: Lamborghini Diablo Verde

This one : Fujimi 121901 Lamborghini Diablo SV '99

It has extra steering wheels, various interior parts (seats, dashboard, gear lever, pedals, etc), clear parts, upper engine, rims .. many parts from all the versions they offer.

I think I will do a cup version from the Fujimi kit, I'm very into racing right now (Pantera LeMans, Bugatti LeMans, a bunch of GT2s from various teams, F40 and so on)
