Technical question: Body filler or spot putty?

Hey guys, I went to buy some bondo for my first and current project and I noticed they sell body filler and spot potty, whats the difference?
The spot putty comes in a tube, the actual name is "Glazing and Spot Putty". The putty is much cheaper than the filler. From what I could read in the instructions on the putty, it seems to work just like body filler, but I'm not sure. Remember guys I'm new to all this so help a newbie out? What is the difference? Which one should I buy? Thanks.

Re: Technical question: Body filler or spot putty?

The spot putty is just that, for small spots that need to be filled before final priming. It is more like a primer in paste form. It can be used over primer and sands real easy. It will easily get pushed through holes, not designed for filling large areas. I would use the bondo for filling holes and large gaps etc. The bondo will need to be used directly on the metal, not on top of paint or primer. You can also use modeling epoxy putty or squadren model filler, you can get these at a hobby shop.

You're a man of eloquence and curtness Mike. I think you could probably condense that post down to Spotty Putty=Shit though. That middle word is just too much. :P

Re: Technical question: Body filler or spot putty?

uh oh... i think i need help!!! a well meaning person said they could fix the rusted out spots on my car and i think he used putty, not filler. it's a red color and it took 3 coats with days of drying in between. now it's dry, but cracking and flaking and it looks like rust (?) is coming back through it. i think i could have done it better myself just by watching youtube videos i know he removed all the rust and sanded, but i think he then just applied the red stuff. any advice is so appreciated, thank you in advance ~
