before u look into i/h/e on that engine u might want think about it again. I have a similiar engine 95 vx the lean burn engine. It been well kept but i had a hard time passing smog cuz i made the changes. But it did pass smog barely. When smog came i always changed the intake back to stock and still had problems but like i said it passed. Currentlyyour car's cat is locked up to your exhaust manifold for a quick light off. You have to replace the cat as well when change your exhaust and manifiold to headers. I think the good thing for you is you dont have to get it smog until 5 yrs from now. Maybe i might be wrong but i hope other people here can answer your question better than me.

If you have smog tests were you are, then you will most definatly want a highflowed cat. I beleave Apex'I makes some nice ones, aswell as Remus. If you are going to do headers and intake and still want to pass smog, get a piggyback FC or a good remapable ECU so you can basicaly de-tune it and let it run lean for the smog test.
