I'd rather have a sweet-ass old car than a mediocre or half-decent new car.

How does your father live with driving a Lucida and particuarly a Lucida DIESEL!!!!!!! Those things have got to be the slowest cars on New Zealands roads, I know that because I have been stuck behind countless numbers of them trying to hurl themselves up the road.

Talking

Nah, the Lucida rocks
It is indeed really slow accelerating but thats what makes it fun. You need to practice a certain driving style if you want to get anywhere fast. Because of the fact it takes so long to speed up you use the brakes a lot less in traffic, meaning you have to maneuvre a lot more. I can still maintain a much higher average speed in the Lucida than most people can in any car. And uphill its perfectly fine, it has plenty of torque so even when fully loaded with people it gets up hills at a reasonable pace, if you are going into the hill at a decent speed and give it the right amount of gas in the right time so it downshifts (its an auto). We've proven it time and again on numerous trips out of town, when all the V6 and V8 Holdens etc pulled out and passed the Lucida in the passing lane on the hills, as soon as they got to the top and at the next stretch they got overtaken again, and fell way behind. What the hell is the point of passing if youre gonna crawl along at 110k, and slow down to 60 for every corner ? Also some of those diesel vans you see around are in quite poor order and blow clouds of black smoke, ours is perfectly maintained so it might be a tad better performing than your average diesel Lucida. Basically, you get used to any car, there are just some things you have to do differently...

Well I live on my own and all of my cars are in mint, except the Talon, and you don't want to even know about that one. Mine are all parked in a larger garage.
