Question $1000 for paint touchups and full detail?

I got an estimate to repaint the rear bumper, fix the door dings, touch up all the clear coat and paint chips/blemishes, and get a full detail (including removal of scratches and swirl marks) for the lexus today, and the cost came out to around $1000US. Does that sound like a lot or is that about right?

Not if you want a halfway decent paintjob.

DO NOT EVER go to maaco or any other place like that. ANY paint job that you'll get for $300, $400, even $700 or $800 will be CRAP. I know from experience. Just the materials alone should cost more than that. And as far as longevity goes, factory paint is 10x better than any respray under 4 or 5 thousand.

That sounds high but, its hard to say without seeing the car. . How many dings, chips and how bad is the rear bumper. Is the bumpers peeling or is it damaged?
I detail cars on the side and charge about $150 or so to remove minor scatches and swirl marks. That also includeds polish to remove haze(from swirl removal) & wax. I also will touch up chips for about $10 per chip, but only on chips that don't go to bare metal.

The price is about right in the ball park IF the people doing the work are qualified.

Ask for some references, at least 5, and call each one and ask them if they have anybody that they themselves referred to these guys. Call as many as you can and ask them if they were satisfied.

I charge about $300 for a full detail (sport car size) and we may remove 3 "dime" size dings for $65 on one panel. Paint chip work is not something I like to do nor recommend.

Anthony

true, but its hard to find some place that can do a good job, its just the fact if really want a good paint job you need to pay for paints that will last and a clearcoat. If you can afford a $4,000 paint job(which would be real nice) go for that'll last.
