Purchased used vehicle in LA, reside in MS; need advice with registration
Hi there,
I've used the forums in the past for info, but first time joining/posting. Nice to meet y'all. I purchased a used van in LA from an established dealer. I haven't heard anything negative about him. Obviously there's that chance that he's a crook. So far all the paperwork seems legit...but I'm confused about something. He issued me an LA temp tag which was good for two months and gives me 60 days [in LA] to register the vehicle. A bill of sale was signed with witnesses. I don't know if a notary was required. The temp tag expires in the next month or so. He said he sent all the paperwork off to Baton Rouge. This is where I'm confused. How is the state of LA supposed to issue a tag to me when I live in MS? Also, MS doesn't recognize LA temp tags. An MS cop who's by the book or in a bad mood can issue a citation since I didn't register the title within 7 days...but the title was sent to LA. I can't register it. I haven't heard from him or any agency. What would you suggest I do? Call him or Baton Rouge or Jackson? Thank you in advance for any time and help, it's much appreciated. ~"Frodo" Last edited by FrodoBaggins; 03-24-2013 at 03:34 AM. Reason: spelling/grammar |

This was posted back on the 24th of march, so I don't know where you are on this. Did you buy the car out right or is it financed? If purchased out right, get him to send yo the title ASAP. If financed slightly different route, but your finance company will be able to help you. If you already resolved the issue, then great. If not I will be happy to try and help.
