Re: How much money did you spend on audio?

$900 total, i was a newbie, had no idea what i was doing.. bought subwoofers and lines (after brother said that i didn't need amps and i actually believed him), bought cuspid 4-channel 1600W amps after realizing i needed them... sound sucked.. thot it was my head unit, bought a $200 JVC Double-DIN model (the only double din they sold) and sounded better.. still sucked, bought tweeters and made it better, but still flat, bought another amp (stayed away from cuspid this time) and installed it, sounded better, bought new speakers cuz factory speakers were popping and fuzzing.. problem still there, found out later that there were connection problems (a disappointment since i also had to buy new wire harness cuz fry's electronic's ones were defective)

total amount spent = around $900
total amount spent on installation = $0 (phew)
wasted money on: new speakers, amps, and a new head unit, plastic buttons from repeatedly removing the door panels

but i learned a lot thru my mistakes, my research in a desperate attempt to fix my own system, and series of unfortunate luck to where i'm actually installing and troubleshooting a few of my friend's systems to great success..

Re: How much money did you spend on audio?

Lets see

Alpine Head unit on ebay- $150

Alpine mono amp also ebay-$100

Kenwood 4-ch amp- $150

Off brand but banging mid speakers-$100 (all 4 including tweeters)
(Haven't heared any distortion and they have a amp pushing a steady 50w rms, good deal)

Kicker 200w RMS sub and box-$110
(Pusing 380w RMS for 6 months and sub keeps on pushing no kidding)

Amp kit and extra wiring-$65
(all good quality)

installation-$0

Grand total-$575

Don't be stupied and just by name brand components. Off brand stuff is some times just as good. Only thing I recommend buying brand name is your head units and amps. Many good audio guys that know there stuff recommend buying a good head unit simply because that is were all the sound is actully is being produced. It is possible to have nice system with out busting your wallet.

Re: How much money did you spend on audio?

What brand mids are they, while you might not be hearing distortion someone with a better ear can hear it. I piss some people off while im riding with ill start putting my ear to the speakers and there ask me what the fuck im doing and i can usually point out a blown speaker and they dont even realize its blown.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.
