Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
"My suggestion is to tell the SAFECO adjuster you'll accept the $1154 with the
condition you get to keep the car (without any "buyback" penalty) and you will stay in touch regarding you and your daughters medical expenses. Then get yourself a replacement blue door and you'll be in good shape. Possibly you can find a replacement door with the mirror already on it." The SAFECO agent called me, said they accept responsibility and have already sent the check made out to TO ME...! I am looking into doors. Crvett69 has given me a couple of options. I have not gone to any of our Pull-n-Saves yet... The damaged door doesn't leak and it closes. So no emergency about it. My only worry is getting a ticket for no mirror! Thanks Crvett69 - I will check it out! DoctorBill

Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
Crvett69 - I called PASCO Auto Wrecking (your 800 number) and talked to a
young fellow named "RAT" !!! They have a complete passenger side door only and then the driver's side shell. BTW - if anyone wants to ask about Metro stuff via E-Mail, RAT's address is ratpart@charterinternet.com I may get the passenger side door ($160). They want $125 for the driver's side shell. RAT says it costs $25 to truck freight it to me in a cardboard box - WOW! Cheap! The '91 shell here for $40 is looking much better..... If you have a complete door Crvett69, would you know how to truck freight it? I wouldn't.... I'd send you $250 for the "package" (frieght included in that value) - how's that? I looked in the trunk (pulled everything out) and found nothing. This car was repainted, I am sure by the way the paint in the trunk is there. The picture below is a good representation of what it looks like. It is that typical dark Blue I see all over the place - must have been the most common Metro color back then! DoctorBill

Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
Yes, there is a "board" under the carpet. Is it on that? I though it was on the
body under the "spare tire" thing...! I'll have to look at that tomorrow! It started snowing HARD here three hours ago. It is dark now and still snowing. ALWAYS - here in Spokane, the beginning of March is BAAAAD. DoctorBill

Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
Doc, it looks like Crvett69 has got you covered! The pressboard tire cover should have a sticker on it with the original "Spid" codes for the car listed on it. 1 of those codes is your paint code. With that price for a complete door setup shipped, you'll have extra $$$ left over the buy a new clutch kit setup.... .

Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
Sorry to hear about the bad luck, DOCTORBILL. I remember when I was in here reading up on Metros the past few months (which I'm still looking for one in my area BTW), you were really working hard on that car. Any time you have something new, or nice, some idiot always comes along to mess it up.

Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
Andrgo - man are you right!
I wish I could remember where I just recently read it, but some scientist said that MOST of the people driving cars on the road are actually not of sufficient level of native intelligence to drive a complex motor vehicle on roads with rules for using them.... But, complaining about other drivers is like railing at the wind for disturbing you! Anyway, here is my "Trunk Tag." I have not a clue which set of numbers relates to the paint (or anything else). Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
So - is that "TAG" what you needed?
The color is "CC"....? CC means dark Blue? Or is the color some other number on the tag? What are your plans? Was my offer OK, or would more be appropriate? Please let me know. "The check is in the mail", I am told..... Have to go teach Chemistry now....Energy of Activation, Catalysis, Reaction Rates, Endothermic, Exothermic, all that fun Thermodynamics stuff. DoctorBill

Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
DOCTORBILL,
I knew I liked you. Sounds like you have enough good advice, sound too. On the side..., I too think of picking up the sword (at 50) but decide I can do my wife and kids better by staying out of prison, so I opt for the beer too. Its the Viking way. And, the only way a country can be free is if they do it themselves, willing to organize and die for it if need be. Just as our forefathers did. Sadam did keep 'em under control (I'm glad he's out though). We did what we went to do, lets come home. Sorry guys, wrong blog for this. Won't happen again. Good luck DOC. |

Re: This is what happens when you get to liking a car...
Doc, You can put your old mirror back on even thought the plastic threaded holes are broken off. All you need is 3 long sheet metal screws and a small drill bit. First predrill the holes a bit deeper with an undersize bit, then just screw the mirror back on with the sheet metal screws. They'll make there own threads. If they go all the way through the mirror base (one of mine did) then just cut it off on the outside and touch it up with some black paint. It'll look just fine.
