how to dye carpet

hey i bought a can of VHT color dye (rose red satin) to change the color of the carpet on the doors i tested it first on my floor mat i did alot of coats but it came out dark brown and not very attractive, the can says to just spray straight on, is there some sort of dye primer of sortthat i don't know about or somthing im missing, thks

What color are you working with?

P.S. Im PRETTY sure they don't use primers on cloth type fabrics.

im useing the dye on black carpet but it looks very dull

you might want to try spraying on some white to take away the massive dullness of the black, and then spray on the red.
