'92 Geo Metro v3 auto. Tranny Whine
I just bought this metro and can hear a high pitched whinning noise when I reach freeway speeds. Just wanted to know if this a normal sound, pushing the 3 cylinders, or is it something I should look into? It doesn't realy bother me, but you never know when a car starts to make noises.
Thanks in advance.. |

I have the same vehicle...except a '93....and I have no such noise at highway speeds. I think you need to find the source before it finds you.

High pitched whining at high rpm's (autos crank really high on the freeway) could be anything from a bad transmission bearing, alternator bearing, water pump, bad engine bearing, damaged cam journal, or even just the tires. unless the car is shaking, there's not much you can do to find the sound. And if it is a bad engine bearing, not much you could do without a rebuild. Just check the basics like alternator, water pump, and all that good stuff, and if those are good, fu@# it, leave it, lol.
