2000 2.7ltr engine fit in a 1995 Tacoma ?
My engine on my 95 Tacoma blew up and I have the opportunitity to put
a used engine in from a 2000 year model. same engine code (3RZFE) 2.7 ltr. 4 cyl. The engine code is the same when I called my local O'Riley Auto Store, but they said the distributor would be different on the 2000 engine. Basically electronic instead of gear driven like on the 1995 engine. any ideas ? Don |

Just switch the distributors because if you blew your motor, you never know if the head is damaged or not and it would just be safer to do it that way. Just my tho

I don't think it's going to be as easy as switching distributors. To have direct ignition you have to have a sensor somewhere on the engine (usually at the crank). So that means the wiring harness is going to be different along with the ecu.
The only way to find out is to get the wiring schematics for both engines. I just bought a 95 Taco 2WD SX for $2.8k with 133k. I did a leakdown and my #s suck. 1=12. 2=26. 3=22. 4=8. The engine runs good but the plugs read hot. I'm thinking about getting a new engine or re-doing the cylinder head. |
