2004 Honda Pilot - How to tell if Odometer was tampered with?
We purchased a 2004 Honda Pilot EXL about a month ago with 26,721 miles on it from a Honda dealer as a Honda Certified Vehicle. For some reason, I hadn't noticed this until today, but there is an oil change sticker on the top left of the windshield that states the mileage of the car at the time of the oil change was 30,270. Naturally, this made me very suspicious of odometer fraud. It has a digital odomoter, so I can't tell just by looking if there was any foul play. I ran a CARFAX report on it, and it comes up clean. The only other owner was leasing it and lived in Ohio (I live in Illinois).
What other ways can I determine if the odometer has been rolled back? What is my recourse if I find that it has? Thanks! |

The oil change sticker is a reminder to change the oil when you reach that mileage. It would be consistent with a 4000 change intervalt. There's no odometer tampering.

The 30,000 miles mark may be a reminder. On older cars people used to remove a cable from the transmission. I do not know it it works with newer ones. I would try to look inside the engine bay and see if there are signs of tempering. Sam

I'm almost sure what they mean is that that should be the next time you should change your oil, they sometimes mess up the date as well.
